Hey all,

I have a strange problem. I recently lost the HDMI connection on my HD 5770. DVI still works. I have no MOBO sound as this has never worked since I got the MOBO (only realised after a few months due to using HDMI sound) but I do have another GFX card (MSI 5450).

Question is I want to use my 5770 to play games - but I have no sound output. However when i use the HDMI on the 5450 it is perfect for video and sound through HDMI.

Can anyone think how I would be able to use the 5770 to process the video and the 5450 to process the sound.

Probably best thing is to get a sound card, but I wondered if anyone had any ideas?

not as far as I'm aware - normally a graphics card will only output sound for something that is being displayed through itself - certainly in terms of gaming anyway

but to see if you can get it to work, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices

you might be able to set the 2nd card as the default audio device and then hook it up to something HDMI to play the audio, but you'll need something with HDMI that can play sound (and not the same display that you are using on the main card)

I think it is possible to do, like Andy says above you'll likely need something that can accept HDMI as a sound source, so if you have an AV receiver that has HDMI inputs I'd imagine you'd get on fine with it.

Yeah i am going to try that when I get home. I have a HTS that has HDMI out anyway, will check for HDMI in.

Thanks, might have to bite the bullet and go for a sound card. It is payday afterall!
