My XFX 4870 has fainted after a dud bios reflash. To cut a long story short i've tried a few options to reflash it, none have worked, it seems like the only option left is to reflash through DOS.......My floppy drive doesn't work!

My question is, would any of you guys who live in the Manchester/Stockport or surrounding area be able to reflash it for me please? Naturally i would reimburse you for your trouble.

I can't send the card to a retailer 'cos it's secondhand.

Please PM me if you can help.;)

use a usb pen drive to boot in dos then flash it.

If you didn't flash it from DOS in the first place you really should have. It's much safer.

I've got an app at home that will quickly and easily format a flash disk for booting from, i'll dig it out when i get in.

Thanks for that, i've got DOS boot files on floppies, but as i've said my floppy drive doesn't work.

Did you blind flash or did you get an old PCI (not PCI-e) card so you could see what you was typing?

Borrowed an old PCI-E card, it flashed, told me to reboot to complete but it won't work.

That's a shame. One last question, are you trying to reflash the same BIOS that apparently killed it or are you using another BIOS?

Using a bios file that i downloaded off manufacturers website.

As a last resort i reflashed earlier this morning with the original bios that was saved as as .rom file as opposed to a .bin file..............SUCCESS!:D

Card is running sweet as a nut! thinking it was dead i dismantled it yesterday to have a nosey around, i noticed that the thermal compound was a bit 'Thin'.

After getting it working this morning i stripped it down, removed the gunk that passed as thermal compound and applied some Arctic Silver that i've had knocking around for years.

Reinstalled Catalyst 9.8 drivers and CCC, at the moment the fan is running at 50% with a temp' of 44 C.

Am i happy?...Not half!:D:D
