Hi Guys,

I have just bought all the components for my Conroe Rig. When i got home, i noticed something odd about the Vid Card, an XFX 7950GX2. This thing is long, and when i say long i mean it. Its massive. So big in fact that it doesnt fit in my coolermaster black widow.

This isnt all, the sticker on the bottom clearly says "7900GTX DUO" NOT 7950GX2!!!.

So, whats the score guys? Is this really one of the DUO's that Dell were using in the quad SLI rigs? Are there any caveats to keeping it other than the fact that its too big for my case?

This was from a very large retailer in the UK btw, not some back street pc market.

Any help appreciated!

Oh, and if anyone can give me the rough dimensions of their 7950GX2's it would be appreciated. Cheers.

Sounds like you have the wrong the card, the 7900 GTX duo was an atrocious card which had laods of problems, and so was replacd by the smaller, and much better 7950, Easyrider on here bought one of those ones, as he got it for steal of a price, but he could'nt get it working so sent it back.

Im guessing you have the 7900 GX2 which you can see in this review here in the 3rd pic pic lined up next to the 7950, if you have then you have the wrong card as it doesn't work so send it back. :(

Well i cant even get the machine to post with this card, and dont have another PCI-E card to confirm with :(

Looks like my Athlon 64 rig is about to make a premature return to action.

Ill post piccies asap!

Thanks for the answers guys!!

Ive edited my post now and included a pic of the 7900 GX2 lined up with the 7950, does yours look like that, as i said if so then its the wrong card, as those ones don't work, those are the old ones that got redesigned into the 7950 GX2 so you'll need to send it back for the proper one.

bugger bugger bugger!!

Well, thanks for your help. Guess ill have to make a trip out on Monday. The people i got it from are both online and you can turn up to their place in Bolton also, so i guess ill have to drive out.

Yeah thought so, that was the first one, it was re-designed into the 7950 of today, as it was a terrible card then, it didn't work etc... so they took it back to the drawing board and turned it into the 7950 GX2. :(

So now i have to take all my conroe rig to pieces, and put my A64 machine back together. /cry

Talk about bad luck. I wanted it all today so made the 100 mile round trip to pick it all up too. Thatll teach me not to trust anyone hah!
