Hi I need a bit of help

at the moment im using a Nvidia 680 GTX on a Dell UltraSharp U3011 30 inch

I want to upgrade but im not sure what to

I normally only play Blizzard Games ie Star Craft, Diablo3, Wow, Heroes

FM2016 might get that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain game , dont benchmark not interested as long as i can play games @ 2560x1600

CPU Im running is kinda old but still is fast enough for what i need, its a Intel® Core™ i7-980X Processor Extreme Edition.

So what you think , Im looking at MSI GeForce GTX 980Ti Armor 2X 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card or MSI
GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Pretty much all those Blizzard game would be CPU bottlenecked even with your 680, even at 2560 res. You should really look into overclocking your CPU first, then think about graphic upgrade.

If I was in your shoe, I'd brave on the 680 and wait for Pascal. Chances are Nvidia will be releasing their mid-range cards first rather than flagship.

A 12 thread CPU with a a turbo clock of 3.6ghz bottlenecking a 680? Not likely.

edit nvm, I didn't realize the games in question :D they are bloody ancient

680 is still a great card, hold off for the new batch of cards for nVidia. I've got a 760 which is a good 10-15% slower than your 680 and that's what I'm doing. Haven't noticed slowdowns in most games so long as I don't set everything to the highest.

Not sure about the cpu bottle necking and according to the following website

http://cpuboss.com/cpu/Intel-Core-i7-980X

my Cpu is comparible to a Intel Core i7 4770K

Yeah might hang on Darg as for the games well I guess there not the most taxing games out there. Especially Wow

90% of games, your GPU will bottleneck hard.

You play the 10% of games where it will take all the CPU power you can give it, and 12 threads aren't doing a whole lot for you in those games.

Spend some time fine tuning the OC on your CPU if you want a boost.

Could sell your board and cpu, chip in the money you'd have spent on the 980 and get the 970 and a better cpu. That's probably what id do.

No, it's not.

Many games, Blizzard games especially, only really use 1-2 cores. That means IPC and clockspeed are KING for these games.

Your 980X from 2008 is ancient in comparison to Haswell or Skylake. All those extra threads do absolutely nothing in the games listed, apart from burn electricity and produce extra heat for the lolz.
