Hi All

just wonder if anyone can help us with this.

Need to no how you can identify between network classes IE class A, B, C Adresses As in how do you no which one is which?

And how can you tell which part of the adress is the network portion and host portion for a class A, B, C

Thanks for any help...

- KEY -
DARK RED - HOST ADDRESSES
ORANGE - NETWORK ADDRESSES

Each octet is 8 bits or 1 byte. (1x - XXX is an octet).
There is 4 octets in a IPv4 protocol.

CLASS A - 1 TO 126 (127 RESERVED FOR LOOPBACK) (127.0.0.1) (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX)(24 BITS)
(network.host.host.host)

CLASS B - 128 TO 191 (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX)(16 BITS)
(network.network.host.host)

CLASS C - 192 TO 223 (XXX.XXX.XXX. XXX)(8 BITS)
(network.network.network.host)

Left side of the address is the network portion and right hand side is the host portion.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for this it was a great help. :) But i still dont get how you no what type of address it is just by looking at the numbers?

Any other help with this would be great if its not to much trouble...

Thanks
