Help a newbie to 3ds :(

I've been using 3ds max for about 4 days (saw my younger bro using it thought it was awesome ). This is my first attempt at modeling and its no way near finished but because i bought the hairtrix plugin i thought i give it a wirl. The problem is that the hair doesnt show in the shadow or reflection, any ideas why

Really sorry if this is a stupid question but this is my first 3d modeling program and i looked all over the net for help with hairtrix but couldn't find it.

I'm used both default and mental ray but same thing. The 3ds hair and fur plugin does work fine but i wanted to see if hairtrix could be made to work as it seemed like a decent plugin for hair as well as quite easy to get to grips with, oh well .

1 more stupid question i know but how can you make the hair longer with 3ds built in plugin because i cant seems to see it
