Hello, please i need some help. I dont know what i did.

First i tried to use Ati Tools, i was moving the sliders etc, but i could not control the fan so i left it.
Then i tried riva tuner, here i could control the fans so i though it would be a good idea to use riva tuner to speed up the fans a little bit and the usual CCC Overdrive to overclock the gpu and memory. Not only that, instead of using a fixed speed of lets say 80% I trusted on the auto mode.

Well, that did not work right instead of speeding the fan up it did just the oposite, i thing they were running just at minimum or maybe stopped.
I tried to overclock the card, then you guess what happened? yes. Black
Then i rebooted and after a few seconds my system was freezing like a 360.
Then i rebooted again and ... freezing and i started to worried.

I rebooted in safe mode, hey... it seemed to work again. Needless to say i got rid of riva tuner, ati tools. first uninstallint then deleting whatever i saw on c:/program files related to this.

Not only that i reinstalled the drivers.
Now everything seems to work right but one thing, catalyst control center wont open.

I am wondering what is the problem. It might not be the best card tunning software but hey, it is the oficial one, and the one i want to run when things do not go well. Like now.

What can i do?

Oh i must say i can see CCC.exe in the task manager.

Just for future clarification if you used the "Find Max Clocks" feature, it will end up giving you a black screen and it just keeps on overclocking and testing until it craps out - and that results in a black screen. If you can't boot after that I *think* you can hold down the SHIFT key during boot up and it'll return to the normal clocks.

Although you are past that now, so the problem with CCC.exe... I think I've had similar before, CCC would just not open although I wasn't overclocking. I had to end it in Task Manager then reopen it through the Start Menu again. I would maybe in your circumstance:

1. Remove the GPU drivers from the Control Panel/Add + Remove programs
2. Boot into safe mode, using a driver sweeper such as the "Guru3D Driver Sweeper" and remove all cases of Nvidia AND Ati drivers.
3. Go back into normal Windows
4. Re-download the latest drivers for your card from the site just to rule out any corruption from the file you originally got.
5. Install the drivers you just downloaded

That would be my route anyway.

I uninstalled the drivers (via control panel), rebooted, then used the sweeper. Reinstalled. But ccc wont run :(

Weird.

Edit:
Well, Ati does not invite me to their ccc party so i have reinstalled riva tuner CCC :D

I have discovered that there seem to be very few fan settings. It might be just that the software is not properly tweaked but i can only set it at

Minimum%
40something%
67%
100%

At 67% the fan is fairly noticeable (it is like having my old 6600GT back) but the good news is that i can overclock it a lot more. the gpu is running now at 770/1056. It was just the first try.

My question, does riva tuner have some kind of autotunning routine like CCC has? I would like to see how far can it get now with the unlocked fan.
The 3850 is an excelent card.
