Right well I have the pc in my sig and just had 2 short power cuts. The pc now won't start, hangs at the mb splash screen for a minute or two then says it can't detect any drives. Attempting to enter bios just crashes it.
If I leave it alone long enough it gets to the windows screen saying I need to repair.
I have reset bios, unplugged all hdds bar the windows drive and still the same.
Is the motherboard dead?

Do you have old parts you can test each component with one by one? That would be the best way since, something has fried assuming you've not had a surge protector (more then likely, it's your motherboard).

Try putting in one of your spare HDD's and put the windows disc in with it also, see if it boots that?

Right well took gfx card out, same problem. Got fed up and left it. Came back 20 Mins later and it's fine... Weird!

my aunt has had this a few times, she is on an electric meter, and now and again it cuts out, then the pc wont start at all.
i had a look at it and could find nothing wrong with the pc, then left if for an hour and it started
so now when it happens, she just leaves it for a couple of hours and it always restarts,
i have told her this is unhealthy for the pc, but she is old and forgets to top up the meter

My grandmother-in-law has this obsession with turning things off by the plug for fear of them bursting into flames. 2x PC re-builds and 2x routers later she still turns everything off by the plug. They'll listen to the news and believe everything at face value but you tell them how electricity works - your wrong they know better.
