Ok. Good news after 4 odd weeks hiper have sent me a replacement power supply. So i now have everything i need to get my computer working or so i thought.

My problem is that when i turn on the computer via the on off button on my case, with all the cables plugged in, it powers on, then powers off. To rectify this, i can take out the 4 pin cable for the motherboard. This means that it wont boot. However when i do the green/black cable pin trick, i can leave the 4pin connector in, and it turns on fine. However this means my motherboard is not getting power.

What's the cause and solution?

thanks, alec

Nope, as the last power supply i had i sent off to be fixed, and they sent me a new one. Ill give them a ring now.

EDIT; how sad am i, ive rang them so many times i remember their phone number

They've told me to contact DFI, as they refuse to believe that it is their fault. Anyone have any proof of this 4ms power cycle happening. Might be useful.

made a bit of a breakthrough. I decided to change my cpus over (opty 165 to athlon 3700+) and it now powers up for a bout twice as long.

My logic is telling me that because an athlon is single core, it uses approx 1/2 power, therefore lasts twice as long before cutting out.

i just received this email from hiper:

"Dear Sir:

After looking over your specs I think I see what the problem is. The 580 watt PSU is simply not enough for this config. The 8800 videocard you are using is demanding as well as the motherboard itself. When the system shuts itself off like that it is very likely that the overvoltage protection on one or more of the rails is being tripped in the PSU. I would advise an upgrade to a PSU in the 800 watt range. I believe that Hyper has a number of models that will fit the bill so I'm sure they will be able to supply you with what you need. Other good brands are PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, or Corsair. "

i dont think that i will need an 800watt, ive found a very nice 600w or 650w, what you all think

just tried it without the graphics card in. Still turns off.

i have emailed the support guy back saying the pc still turns off with out the gpu. i also mentioned that the brand of psu he recommended (corsair) dont do a 800w psu, the amount he recommended

it says i need 517 watts. although to be honest im sick of hiper so i will just get a corsair 620HX. I have a friend who can get me a goodish deal

Edit: infact he cant  so which is better out of these:

Tagan Dual-Engine 650W PSU
Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W PSU
Seasonic S12 Series 600W

It is diy street. I posted there, they were the ones who told me my psu was bouncing. The LED code is all 4 red, however i know it is not the cpu as i have tried two different cpus and also the LED code stays red until you post

Just purchased the seasonic.

Last night i stripped it down to the core components. CPU, RAM, MOBO and gfx card. I managed to get into the bios before it shut off again. I seriously think this is a problem with the psu.

now this is really wierd. Changed motherboard, and graphics card (back to my x1900), the power stays on fine :D , but nothing is displayed on the screen. Put the graphics card into the motherboard (original), it has an image on the screen, but the power goes away. Why does this keep happening!!!!!11
