hi , I have an i7 2600k (3.4), in an asus p8z77 v lx2' with a h50 cooler, and am trying to over clock this cpu . At first I was changing the multiplier to 42 , to give me 4.2 it would save in the bios but in cpuid, it still said 3.4, so I updated the bios to latest one and now it reads @4.3 in cpuid. Windows kept crashing at anything higher so I guess the clock speed is being applied, but my trouble lies when I run heaven benchmark, I go no more fps than the 3.4 clock speed :( and heaven reads my cpu as 3.4 but cpuid has it 4.3 ??

typically when you overclock, it increases the memory speed as well, which could mean why your computer is crashing. So decrease memory speed before the overclock, and as you increase bclk, then the memory speed goes back up, so hopefully as you get to a decent overclock, the memory clk speed will match the original, and rated memory speed.

If he's changed the multiplier only then the blck will still be 100 and memory will be running at the same speed.

Have you changed anything other than multiplier when you overclocked?

Heaven benchmark is very cpu efficient so won't see much benefit from cpu overclocking.

Thanks hornet but I have it stable, it ran prime for 24hrs @ 4.3 according to cpuid , but I'm not seeing an increase in fps on any benchmark programs .. I'm using heaven

Ok ran cine bench and @ 3.4 I got 6.59
And @ 4.5 I got 8.6 so I guess the overclocking is working

One thing though is core 0 is 7-8 degrees c lower than the others ( core 0 is 64 under load..others around 72

I use cinebench and the benchmark tab in CPU-Z to check speeds. Both are good and easy.

Everything in your overclock looks good.
