Help another noob overclock!

Hi guys, I've had my computer for a a little over a month now and i though i may as well give oc'ing a go as apparently its murder to NOT oc your E6300! So i started like it said in the guide by unlocking the FSB thingy, and incrementing by 5 each time.... I have got the CPU so far up to 1.932 Crappy I know but i can't help but think im doing something wrong. I have read that you are supposed to decrease the FSB on your Memory, but how do i do this? every time i increment the FSB by 5 the memory thing goes up (it's @ 690?) How do I go about decreasing this? I haven't changed any of the other options i.e. (PCIE multiplier or something like that? :confused:, as i didn't know if you are supposed to?)

anyway here are 2 screenies from after the oc.....so far, dunno what's wrong with CPU-Z its quite obviously reading the CPU frequency wrong as coretemp shows ?? :confused:

Ta mate, i just realised what I was doing wrong.....I take it you have to lower the FSB of the RAM in order to compensate for when you overclock your CPU? I say this because as you increase the FSB on your CPU you are also incrementing the FSB on the RAM (right? :confused: ) I seem to know what needs to be done, if only I wasn't out on the lash tonight I would finish it off :D

How well do you think it will do on stock cooler? at least 2.2 hopefully? I will be getting a freezer7 pro or whatever is good after xmas :D

Ok so I clocked the CPU to 2.3 GHz as this meant 333x7, So that My RAM would then run at 333 FSB (i.e. 666/7) The RAM is currently at 1:1 at 5-5-5-15, and the CPU was orthos stable (but I will test for better stability later....My only qualm is my CPU temp has shot up from 46°C idle to 55°C idle. i haven't changed any of the voltages or anything, so I was just wondering if I did anything wrong, I do understand that obviously the chip will get hotter as its pushed harder, but I didn't think it would go up this much! I know my case is pants for cooling, So has anyone got any suggestions?

EDIT: Is it safe to be this high? as I noticed people have got some really low temps! ? I just don't want to damage the CPU tbh (it may just be oc'ing noob talk but better to be safe than sorry)

Thanks for that mate, problem is is there anything I can do in the mean time to reduce temps? I just didn't expect them to go that high seeing as It's not really been oc'ed as much as others (although i Know this is CPU dependant) and seeing as I haven't touched any of the voltages AT ALL.

How long since you built the PC? If I recall correctly you are using the stock CPU cooler? That cooler is actually quite a good one and an idle temp of 46C is too high. I would suggest turning off the automated fan control in the BIOS as on mine that stopped the fan for worryingly long periods.

If that doesn't help, then check the cooler is properly seated. I had one of those case and they are not disastrous for cooling. Nice and quiet though.

Thanks dude, I have already reseated it, as I was getting 55°C idle before I reseated! That is correct I am using the stock CPU cooler, so I don't know what's going on, will take a look in the BIOS for this 'automated fan control' setting and disable that!

EDIT: Ok so I turned off the automated fan control thing, but my idle temp is still 51C as reported by coretemp - I know this is way to high as these chips are supposed to run cooler right? Looks like I might have ti invest in a freezer 7 pro then - is the thermal compound that comes with it good enough or should I get some AS?

Yes I used Arctic Silver...I Checked the temperature in BIOS and it was 43°C idle yet coretemp was reporting it as 51.....Seems like coretemp is wrong - as surely the BIOS can't be wrong can it?

Just another thing, I have clocked to 2.3 GHz (333x7) at the moment, which means my RAM is running at 667MHz, The RAM Im using is the Geil Value PC5300 (2x1gb stuff). Now if I continue to increase the FSB to oc the processor does this mean that the RAM will run ok over speeds of 667?
