Help! Any 3ds users here?

Hey, I've just got 3ds, and I'm trying to create a piece of digital art, and I want to incorporate a 3d element. I want to create some 3d graffiti parts, like in this picture.

Can anyone direct me into how to do this, i.e via a similar tutorial (as I can imagine its not possible to explain). I have searched everywhere, but don't really know what I'm looking for in particular.

I would draw what you want as splines then generate the mesh from those shapes. Shouldn't take too long or be too hard. Having said that, from what I can see in the small image, I would have said that the image has been done in photoshop, not in 3D.
