iHola amigos! Hope you all had a good Christmas.

I'm looking to upgrade my 9 year old, pre-built by PC world, computer. I'm talking GeForce GT 610, stock fans.. i5-2300 and 6GB Ram. 60FPS on medium settings FarmVille, you know how I roll.

What I'm saying is.. An iPhone 3 is probably more optimized for gaming.. please help me make gaming great again!

Budget is £1800 as I want to compare it to the Alienware Aurora R6 and the Velocity Colossus Extreme. Both come with a GTX 1080ti, i7 8700k and beyond that I don't understand the jargon.

Convince me there's better value than these! Cheers bros.

let us know what you want to do with it,resolution you will be gaming at etc

1080ti / 8700k = £1050.00 for those 2 items..

is it just the pc you are upgrading or are you looking at a monitor as well.

I don't have a 4K monitor but I will invest after I finish with my car. Currently I have a BenQ GL2450 1080p 24" and a smaller LG one which I will replace with the 4k. If it's possible to use a 4k and 1080 simultaneously?

I want it to be a VR ready gaming machine. I don't edit photos or any of that, just want to run Rust, PUBG, Battlefield, League etc on max settings and at a good frame rate.

Hi welcome to the forum :)

First off please can you edit out those two company names from your opening post, as mentioning competitors is against the rules :)

Are you able to build a pc yourself ? That way you get the choice of parts rather than a pre-built off the shelf option.

Hello thank you! Yes sorry I should have thought about that. Edited it now.

I am competent to build one but not picking the components to be honest. It seems to work out at a similar price without a garuntee. Is there a system comparable system to the ones I mentioned on Overclockers? Or a parts list which dwarfs the performance pre-built machines offer that you can recommend? Por favour :D

This is the sort of thing I would be looking at. It is a bit over the £1800 budget but it gives you an idea.

Of course you can shop around and you might get things cheaper.

Things like case choice are personal pref so you might want something different. The Fractal R4 is not bad for the price though.

You can claim a £20 Steam Voucher with the Gigabyte board. Offer runs until 31st Dec.

Just had a quick Google of that Velocity Colossus PC and it has a very poor power supply (Corsair VS). There are also a couple of other parts that are a bit average (Cooler and board).
Also as far as I can see it doesn't specify what the case is, so it could be a cheap and nasty £30 job and it doesn't say whether the 1080 ti is an aftermarket version (Like the Gigabyte above) or a Founders edition which run noisy/hotter than aftermarket ones.

Thank you for the list, I had no idea the quality of power supply mattered. I assumed it'd be a case of compatible or non-compatible.
The case is negligible to me, as long as it all fits and doesn't break we're good.

A 1tb ssd? Is it just used for loading times? Feels super overkill but what do I know. Thanks guys I'll probably order these parts today :D

What's the best thing to downgrade if I wanted to add a 4K screen today?

Cheers

At 4K resolution the cpu is less important as you are more gpu bound, so you could drop down to an i5 8600K. You could also download Windows from Microsoft and use it without activating it for the time being and that would give you another £100. Then just buy a licence once you have some more cash to spare.
And maybe even take the 2TB hard drive out for another £60 as a 500GB SSD would do for the short term.

That would probably give you enough to get a decent 27"+ non G-Sync 4K monitor.

If you can find i5 8400 for £190 then a bit more saved for a screen .
If your not into overclocking, the chip is fantastic ! Drop it in and let it do its thing. Boosts to 3.8ghz on all cores and can handle 3600hz ram on that board
