I've recently reinstalled Max Payne 2 to test out my new HD tv running through
my pc as a second monitor and have been getting nasty artefacts, and it is generally unstable,

so i decided to run ati tool after reading other threads stating the artefacts could equal a temp issue.

iran a scan for artefacts at stock and after about 2mins hit 110 degrees and starts showing artefacts......

so i've turned my fan up to 100% taken the side of my case and down clocked my X800XL from 400mhz
core to 890mhz... now hitting 107 after 10minutes... help!

My card is a HIS Excalibur X800XL ICEQ... idle with the down clock is about 55 degrees...

have you looked at the fan blades? making sure they are spinning? dust clogs?

id take the card out and give it a quick inspection and a nice little dust, and possibly remove the coller and place it back on after a clean and some fresh past put on. might have come loose... its happened to me before.

Yep, sounds like either the fans gone or it needs a good clean. Might even be worth investing in some thermal paste, stripping it right down and re doing it.

loose contact between the fan and card processor i think. Re-apply some arctic silver 5 compound between the fan and card processor and the temps should normalise. Failing that u might have a duff card.

that was one cause, i think, the memory chips had 2mm thick thermal pads applied but the processor had just a small amount of thermal paste...

blow out heatsink its probably full of dust its quite surprising how quickly they get blocked

the heat sink also had a massive amount to dust on it so no air was going over it...

fixed all of this, put the card back in.... won't boot, think i messed up the ram chips when i was taking off the thermal pads with a flat headed screw driver.... so i've brought a Sapphire HD 2400XT 256MB for £46 to tide me over till i upgrade in july next year.... my card only had to last NINE MORE MONTHS!!!
