pc has worked ace for ages no problems, the other day launched a game, no pic just sound... monitor had switched itself onto standby. Managed to exit the game and get the display back job done.

Today pc launches fine, check emails, launch game, no picture just sound.... so do everything I did before, no good. Unistalled the drivers updated to the 9.4's reboot no windows logon, sound but no picture. I can uninstall dirvers and reinstall untill the cows comes home, still same result.... Drivers installed no logon.... drivers unistalled logon fine, no games etc....

4hrs to diagnose its a dodgy DVI cable... running on the vga cable at the mo.. went through, monitor is forked... gfx is forked... to find out its a cable...

same here tbh, after giving it some thought. Seems weird, I might try to borrow another. This cable is a DVI dongle to vga, same port but works..... tv works fine also if left to boot. But the monitor connected with DVI cable just gives up at the login screen. I did get it working in windows with the dvi by booting with the tv and the swapping them over, as soon as i launched program... monitor to stand by...

dvi cable... just bought a new one, belkin pure av one in sale at a competitor's for a £10!! happy days. Works fine... vga was starting to hurt my eyes...

is there a big differnce between vga and dvi as im running 2 monitors and my older one is vga and newer one takes anything and i though my old monitor was rubbish because its older or is it to do with vga aswell?
i think i got that right lol

You coulda spent 3quid on a dvi cable and youd see no picture difference.

main difference is that VGA can only do up to 19" resolution i beleive?

I would presume its possible on a realy high quality monitor there could be a little difference only noticeable when doing photo editing etc. But you most probably wouldn't be doign this on a 19" or smaller screen anyway.

So yeah no point changing unless you get a bigger monitor.
