After having 2 boards refused RMAs for pins i supposedly bent ( for machines i build for customers ) i now only buy mainboards in person and inspect them at the counter.
On one occasion i opened a board and found 4 bent pins! this is after it had been opened by them and had a "quality assured inspected" sticker on it. Clearly the chimp behind the scenes had
bent the pins himself sticking the damn protector back on.
If i had not opened it at the counter they would have refused the return claiming they "inspect" them prior to dispatch. I now take no chances with boards.
If i were being honest i would think some companies do this "inspection" as a cover to sell known duff boards with bent pins to avoid returns ( on stuff they cant send back for what ever
reason ). Then again i do have a bad opinion of some of these so called "professional" outfits.
Not ocuk by the way... so far i have found them to be great![]()
nods with some credit card company is the onley way to go. i must say oc has all ways looked affter meMy point is that is far easier/less hassle to buy mainboards in person. Ok it might cost me a few quid more but if it 100% avoids any arsing about then to me its money well spent.
As it happens I eventually got my cash back for the refused RMA's by going through my credit card, but in the meanwhile i had to use my own money to buy new boards to use in customers machines.
Let me tell you now, just telling them that they cant refuse an RMA or return for bent pins so gimme my money back, will not result in them bowing down and instantly giving you your money back. You have to fight for it and its not instant.
I speak only from personal experiance as someone who builds on average 10-15 machines a month for my clients.
edit: ive just looked back over my records and when i was buying boards mail order i had in total 8 cases of bent pins on arrival. 3 were replaced no arguement and the rest i had to take up with the credit card company, or spend my time arguing on the phone. Since i changed to buying them in person ive had only 2 cases where i had to refuse the board at the counter, and of course there was no arguing i just got another. The 8 i had that were damaged on arrival is out of 107 mainboards ( records that go further back i have filed away ).
As for the comment on security stickers. You will find that the majority of places break the stickers to enable them to put thier own security and warranty stickers on the actual item itself. Very rarely do i find i get pristine unopened items, they may have a security sticker put on the outer box by the company reselling but often this is not the case. Some places will not open the anti static bag but instead use a knife to slit it open to allow them to put a warranty sticker on the item. On more than one occasion this has damaged the product inside ( from my own experiance ), this usually comes from the fact that they employ trained chimps in the warehouse who have no idea how to handle delicate electronic components. If they are heavy handed and damage the product they will just bag it up and say nothing, rather than own up and have the item taken out of their wage... which is understandable from their viewpoint.
Ive also had second user items shipped to me as "new" on a few occasions. Its easy to spot them... dust or finger prints on the product. Smudges and finger grease on the inside packaging etc. Needless to say i dont use that company again!( its a big one based in manchester im sure you know who i mean )
