Right guys, i know this question crops up all the time.

All i need to know is.... a GTX or a GTS - in 2 months the GTS will be outdated but is cheap. Yet the GTX will take a year before it starts to struggle.

Money isnt an issure and i know about VGA cards. Just dont know whether or not i would benifit more from a GTX or a 320/640 GTS if i get 1x GTS i will go SLI eventually, even though i know about problems.

I played Armed Assault but wont it on full, my rig is INTEL SLI mobo, e6700, 2GB Corsair 6400 (800mz) dominator 4-4-4-12.

Just been told to play armed assault on high i need a GTX really.

Thanks

I wouldn't let Arma dictate which card you should buy. I love it, played it non stop since it came out in the UK but the engine is one unoptimised shoddy piece of crap.

Regardless, get a GTX :D

Says who? There is no evidence to support either of those claims - infact, unless you game at the insanely high resolutions which appear to have become the new obsession of review sites, there is every chance a GTS will be just as good as a GTX for a while to come.

If money is no issue then as said previously, get the GTX.

However if you want to be sensible with you money, get a GTS 640Mb if you are not gaming at high resolutions. Its perfectly capable of handling everything under 1600 x 1200 on full.

I can understand the concept saying you dont need the GTX if your gaming at say 1280x1024 res.

What if your gaming at that res 1280x1024 and playing games like quake4, doom 3 and would like them to play max detail, max AA, what about then?

My X2 3800+ S939, 8800GTS 320Mb, 2GB RAM runs FEAR at that res with everything maxed out, running an average of 70fps.

Own them 2 games, have them maxed out full at 1600x1200, no problems here and can even go to 1920x1440 with same result using 8800GTS 640mb. Money to burn then GTX, if you dont intend to play above say the rez i use then your fine with GTS 640mb. Cant say with regards to GTS 320 as never used one.

well a GTX wont play armed assault on full at more than 10fps (when scoped and viewing a lot of stuff) max iv seen on it is like 30fps? from GTX posts or somthing

If it's any help, my clocked OcUK 8800GTS 640MB @ 620/1000 runs Counter-Strike: Source at around 250ish steady FPS on 1280x1024, everything high, full anti-aliasing.

oc.

I have been looking at the XFX 8800GTS 320mb XXX edition. Around £235. Seems a good by and the review on ***** shows how well it performs next to a GTX. Im wondering whether or not it is worth buying one of these. I run games usually in full with a resolution of 1280 x 960/1280 x 1024.

On my old 7800GTX It ran everything fine.

Just wondering if anyone has one of these cards and does it perform better than the standard XFX 8800GTS 320mb?

I would like a GTX but feel as though it is a waste when my res. isnt that high.

But.... i was then looking at an XFX 8800GTX XXX edition. lol

Thats one expensive, yet powerful card ;)

I wouldn't waste your money if the highest res you're running at is 1280x1024, I'd get a GTS version, but get a 640MB version. Then spend your money on booze!

oc.

I benched my EVGA 8800 320 mb GTS running 650/2000 with a 6400 running at 3.6ghz and I get the same 06 score as I did with my 8800 GTX running stock with a 6300 @ 3ghz

Amazing bang for buck

I'm upgrading soon, and I was also trying to choose the right one. I play my games at 1680x1050, so the choice was a 640 GTS or a GTX. After reading a few reviews, I've decided to go for the GTX. I suppose it doesn't really make a lot of difference which brand I go for, as they are all nvidia reference I think (unless you get an OC version, or one with a different cooler). I'm just going to get the cheapest GTX I can find, and I'm hoping to get one for around £350-£360.

Does anyone know if you can OC these cards in Vista?
