Updated: Help with AV and Speaker Package

Hi there,

So I've just purchased a new TV, the Sony KDL50W829, and I'm currently using LG BH6220S Home Cinema, it's Blu-Ray 3D and 850 watts.

I'm planning to sell that System and buy something else, a bit better. Can anyone help find me something a little more newer, around £250-300, lets say minimum 850 watts as well.

It must be 3D and have a USB port.

Thanks all!

Edit:

Sorry this is going around in circles, I promise it'll end soon, but here's what it is. I met a colleague today who's brother works at Richer Sounds and he can get me discount.

New budget: £450.

I've taken a whole range from below, can you match two together an AV and Speakers that would be great together.

AVs:

Speakers:

I still think that I should get the Yamaha RX-V475 AV and Tannoy TFX 5.1 Speakers, for a discounted price and brand new.

Can I do better than that with £450 at RS?

Just to add to my post, I bought the Sony BDV-E3100 with the TV which is supposed to be 1000 watts and that isn't loud at all, I'm very disappointed, the LG that I've cited BH6220S is much louder for some reason. I should've read the reviews before buying the BDV-E3100 as people also share the same views.

Anyway, hopefully someone can suggest something.

If your budget is 250-300, that Yamaha offering I posted really is the best value for money. I can't stress enough how important it is you get something like that rather than one of those awful all in one systems, just buy a seperate blu-ray player. The difference really is night and day.

I really don't know why I rushed and bought the Sony, I soo regret it.

Anyway, I'll try and sell it and buy another one. Thanks to the above poster, but I've really got my mind set on getting all in one system. Please try and help me find a good one.

I can get the Pioneer at £195 which is a bargain! it is also 1000W.

I'll sell the Sony, and buy the Pioneer. It can't be worse than the Sony, right? Hopefully someone can give me some reassurance here.

Again, please do not get that sony or pioneer all in one. Pretty much every single all in one is absolutely terrible and you aren't gaining anything by getting an all in one - the Yamaha is far superior, and no real difference in size.

I'm surprised you said no to the Pioneer, I thought they were quite respectable in audio/sounds.

I'm going to have a closer look at the Yamaha now.

Echoing the above, all-in-ones are rubbish. They're basically just glorified Blu-ray players with cheap speakers attached. A proper AV receiver will be far, far better. The all-in-one systems might be appealing for their simplicity but ultimately that's why they're not very good. If they were cheaper then I could see some merit, but for £200 you're not getting much for your money. A £50-60 Blu-ray player will have Smart features these days, and you can be assured the speakers aren't worth £150.

I went from a rather terrible Samsung all-in-one home theatre system to an Onkyo set-up a few years back, the improvement was massive and I've never, ever regretted it. You don't need to be an audiophile or home cinema enthusiast to notice the difference either; I'm certainly not.

How long is a piece of string :)

The entry level kit these days isn't bad, if you up your budget to say £500 you'd be able to get what I call a "proper" set up, take your pick of any of the entry level Sony, Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo AV receivers, as above a £50 blu-ray player will do the trick and then a speaker package of some sort, this is a decent example of a ready made bundle -

You can do a lot better than this however if you were willing to go second hand, some real bargains out there if you do some research.

Considering he's looking at a £200 all-in-one, I'd say recommending a system that's double that price (+ the cost of a BD player) is probably a good way of scaring him off.

The Yamaha I originally linked is under £200, plus a blu-ray player comes up at under £250 which is his original budget. He's since asked for an idea of how much he should be spending for a half decent system, not sure what the issue is here as I'm just giving him an idea of cost for a proper home cinema separates system.

The option Jano posted is really the best value for money in the price bracket you stated. Failing that any low end/budget av reciever plus speaker will be better than the all in ones you are looking at.

£200 for the yamaha + £60 for a blu ray player is where you should be looking IMO

Save yourslef the disapointment of buying an all in one and again being underwhelmed.

I'm gonna bite my tongue and get the Pioneer above, if you had to choose between the Sony and the Pioneer above, which would you go for?

Sony:

125 Watt - 3 Ohm - at 1 kHz - 2 channel(s) ( front )
125 Watt - 3 Ohm - at 1 kHz - 2 channel(s) ( rear )
250 Watt - 6 Ohm - at 1 kHz - 1 channel(s) ( center )
250 Watt - 6 Ohm - at 80 Hz - 1 channel(s) ( subwoofer )

I phoned up Pioneer and they said it was 170 Watts for all 6 including sub.

Much better than the Sony more evened out.
