On startup it says before the windows logo that Boot MGR cant be found press CTRL ATL DEL to restart...now ive tried to fix the issue with a windows 7 recovery disk, and ive tried using a program called Easy BCD but nothing is working...any thoughts? or am i just going to have to do a fresh install. Interestingly, the recovery disk says it can find no errors.

Also, with the disk in the drive, if i let the "press any key to boot from cd" option time out then i can get into windows, without it in the drive i get stuck at the Boot MGR not found bit..

Thanks in advance for all your wisdom!

Make sure you have only the keyboard and mouse plugged in. Some computers will try to boot from usb if they are plugged in.

My mouse is usb but i will unplug that and try again, if it boots once correctly from HDD should i be able to then plug the mouse back in? Thanks for the help thus far.

Shouldnt be the mouse, but on some servers and some computers if you leave a usb stick in it will come up with the error you are getting because the usb stick doesnt have an OS on it.

Have you checked the BIOS to make sure the HDD isnt disabled?

Do you have two HDDs? I had a problem with bootmgr on my current pc that would sometimes swap around the boot order on the HDDs for no reason, a fix was just to copy the boot sector onto the second drive.
