Hey guys,
I finally got my entire rig set up:

Lian-Li Black Aluminium Card Reader
Intel Core 2 Quadro Extreme Edition QX6700 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.66GHz - Retail
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
Lian-Li PC V2100 PLUS Black Aluminium Full-Tower (No PSU)
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Pioneer DVR-112DBK 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM
Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX ACS3 SILENT 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM
2x Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB)

Initially, it was posting but would shut down shortly after reaching the BIOS, now, however, it wont even post, and the post LCD shows CPU INIT, and never gets any further. Even if I take out all of the memory, it doesnt even beep anymore. I've called ASUS and they've told me to check the power supply and CPU which I will try tomorrow.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way that I can narrow down the problem (other than trying different power supply/cpu)?

This sucks :(

Thanks for any help guys

Try resetting CMOS as has been mentioned, and then if that doesnt work try reseating the CPU. Make sure its a very thin layer of paste.

yeah, *should* be a blazing rig if it even works...ok sorry for the dumb questions, but i never claimed to be an expert:

resetting the cmos entials just pushing that button on the mobo, right? do i have to hold it down? ive done that many times already (if thats all you have to do).

re. reseating the cpu: ill give that a shot but would it ever have gotten to the bios if the cpu was sitting wrong?

also you mention to make sure theres just a thin coat of paste. i didnt apply any extra paste, i just slapped in the arctic fan, but i did notice the paste got slightly smudged. i think at this point with the fan firmly on top it should have spread more evenly though, right?

thank you!

i think resetting the Cmos is the same as resetting the bios? switch the jumper on the 3 lil pins, power it, leave for about 5 secs, turn off, then put back??

dont take that as final answer though please, wait for confirmation lol, i just thought thats standard...

I REPEAT

dont rush into doing that^^^

:)

Could be that the HSF is not seated correctly and therefore your monster quad is overheating (and therefore turning itself off in self preservation).

Get some arctic silver, some TIM cleaner and then remove the HSF and reseat with this new stuff.

acrctic freezer 7 pro doesnt fit striker extreme

I f*n love you guys!

Turns out the Arctic sink wasn't sitting right, it had felt a bit tight, but I didnt think to try the stock one. Once I had it in-everything's gravy! Let this be a warning to anyone trying to use an acrctic freezer 7 pro with a striker extreme...

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you...
(and no thanks to that lousy asus support)

oh, and for the record, she's insanely fast :D

The Freezer 7 Pro is just as easy as putting on as the stock cooler rofl, just 4 pins to connect :P

oc.

yea, i mean i got them all clicked in with some extra force but it obviously wasnt right. the problem was the plastic bezel for the fan doesnt quite fit between all those crazy heat spreaders on the mobo...

thanks again!
