Well I was carefully putting together my new system and about half way through I noticed that one of the Pins on my IDE connector was bent 90 degrees so I went to straighten it but it snapped off.

It's Pin 40 - ground. I'm using 80 wire cables.

Will it make any difference? Will I have to try and re solder a new IDE plug back on? I haven;t yet tried it though, will do tomorrow. Just incase any body has done this before and knows what to do.

Could I just break out the wire from the cable and wire straight to ground elsewhere in the case?

Would that work?

You might be ok because as far as I'm aware the 80 wire cables have several grounds through them to minimise cross talk etc.

shame it wasn't pin 39 - LED. Never mind I am hopeful it will still work, and PIN 40 is probably ground wire for the LED so it shouldn't be so bad. I'll give it a shot. I't only a UDMA2 (DMA3) interface, so I could go to a 40 pin wire and hack it if necessary.
