Hello,

I need some help with my PC build. After moving everything to my new case i'm getting a BSOD on startup.

I recently bought some more ram and a new case:

New Ram - Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8) pc3-128000c9 1600mhz
New Case - Corsair 750D

System Specs

Asus P8P67 PRO
I7 2600k
Corsair h80i cpu cooler
OCZ 700W modular power supply
GTX 760 oc 2GB
Corsair vengeance 8GB (2x4) pc3-15000c9 1866mhz (OLD RAM)
256GB HyperX Savage Sata III SSD
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II
Antec 900 (OLD CASE)

After moving everything over and trying to power on for the first time i get a BSOD. I reset the bios to default settings upon installing my new ram (as my old setup was overclocked with different timings).

Here's a video of what happens (i recorded in slowmo in order to capture the BSOD as even though i have it set to not reboot upon error it still flashes up and reboots instantly):

I have tried setting the timings manually for the RAM in Bios with no luck.
Have also tried the OLD ram in the machine, same BSOD.

I did try running startup repair but it stated that there were no problems and another time gave an error message.

I googled the iastore.sys error and it relates to the intel rapid storage driver which would indicate the hard drive? However the hard drive's havent been changed.

I've not yet tried to get in via safe mode but looking for suggestions when i troubleshoot it later on today (working this weekend and not had much time to look into it)

Any suggestions?

I'd prefer not to have to re-install windows.
Also i have my old 64gb ocz SSD i can test with (has my old windows install on there)

All help appreciated!

boot up a live CD/USB ( you would need another computer to make this) to rule out hardware faults , but i can't think what could have happened the case being the only variable, and as you said the old RAM gives same results.

did you reset the BIOS before or after you first encountered the BSOD? if before maybe the default settings influenced the crash somehow. ( it enabled/disabled something )

take everything out you don't need like video card ( use chipset if you have one ) extra HDD/SSD's PCI cards etc aand retest with bare minimum system

I have my Windows 7 DVD to try with, or by live USB do you mean i need some kind of bootable operating system on a USB/DVD?

The only difference between cases is that the 750D has 2 USB 3.0 ports on the front, therefore the only 'extra' thing plugged in is the connection for the front USB 3.0 ports into the motherboard. I didn't have anything plugged into this slot on my motherboard from my previous case.

Could this be causing this?

I also noticed that i've never updated my bios so i have the first release, and since then the newer bios versions have many 'improved memory compatability' updates, but i'm doubting that the RAM is causing the problem.

I checked the RAM settings in bios on first boot and all looked ok, so attempted to boot. Got the BSOD then tried resetting to 'optimised defaults' and got the same (i assume) BSOD. Not sure if the error may have changed as i can't seem to get it to stay on the BSOD without automatically rebooting. Tried several different configs for the ram including X.M.P.

HDD is set to ACHI mode (which i think is the right one)

Will try taking everything out and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.

Will try re-seating the SSD/HDD, will also try remove the 1tb drive as that one is only for storage with a few games installed. then try booting with just the SSD

update: Plugged SSD into the sata 3gb/s ports (they were in the sata 6gb/s port before and i tried both with same BSOD) And it's now working.

So either the SSD can't run on the 6gb/s port or the ports on the mobo are dead?

I have another small problem.. Windows is only detecting 8GB of 'useable' ram although it shows 16gb http://imgur.com/vZUzalS (win 7 PRO 64bit)

Do i possibly need to update my bios?

Never mind, Sorted the RAM issue.

There's an option in MSCONFIG in the advanced boot options for max memory, It was ticked and set to 0.

I've unticked it and now windows recognises all the ram :) Happy days.

Thanks all for your help/suggestions

that's really interesting. wonder why it got ticked. ?

anyway congrats

Im not sure, I wasn't actually aware of that setting until i googled it! It said the default value is set to 8gb but mine was set to 0

Anyway, I think I'm going to flash the bios and update any storage drivers then try my SSD in the 6gb/s port again.

Thanks for your help
