Hello, really bad day, Switching CPU in my Crosshair V and managed some how
To make one of the chips on the bottom of the CPU socket be half hanging off :-(

This has really wound me up as I have change hundreds of CPUs and switched loadsnof motherboards and never done anything as bad as this.

I can put pictures up a bit on phone at the minute so sorry for formatting,
I'll also mention that when I first received this board there were loose components in the box. So it has been RMA'd once but this time must have been my fault although I havnt scraped the board, bashed or dropped it.

Can anyone advise what I should do?

Thanks in advance

Jon

Hi here are some photos, on an old laptop now, really slow (old Celeron M, E-machine :-( )

The Problem

Here is a previous problems I've had with the board when it arrived it came damaged.
Bent cover for sound chip I know it's no big problem still works fine.

** please resize images to no mopre than 1024px wide before replacing image tags - thankyou**
This came broken not far from the sound chip seems as if it was poor packaging design that damaged both but this was just loose in the box.

I RMA'd this board with OCUK and they sorted it out, I presume they got permission from ASUS to just solder the chip back on and send it back as the board came back with the same bent corner and seemed to be the exact same board.

The current issue Must have been my fault though I didn't notice at the time and it must have broken easily, as I said and you can see I did not scrape it or anything like that.

I have very little soldering experience we have an old soldering iron in the shed and a solder gun too. I once made a simple circuit at Secondary school and also replaced one of the capacitors on my Parents Shuttle.

Thankyou Mod for moving the thread, thought it might get more attention in general hardware but should have correctly put it in Motherboards.

Kind Regards

Jon

Sorry about this picture,

For anyone that might have the same problem, I thought I'd let you know how I got on.

The soldering was a bit of a nightmare, I actually gave up deciding that I didn't havew the correct tools or skills thinking that I'd just order a new board. That was after detaching the other side of the solder joint :-/

My Dad knowing how stressed I get and how unbearable I'd be without use of my computer percevered and though it was a messy job managed to get the component re-attached, and though It isn't overclocking well at all (FX8120 only reaching a 2% overclock using AI suite stability test. but will reach 3.4ghz if I push it straight up manually) I'm still allot happier then if I was waiting for a board to arrive.

I feel that although this month has been quite ****, financially I have done alright so I have ordered a replacement motherboard, hopefully this one will arrive in better condition.

I figured if I wasnt going to do that I'd either have to stick with what I have or send back my processor (within DSR/OCUK warrenty) and purchase a SB-E motherboard and processor and though that would give me more performance, with the spec I would want it would cost me about £100 more then just keeping what I've got and replacing the motherboard.

If the New board comes as the CPU still wont reach FX8150 speeds then I will DSR it and that board and purchase the SB-E system mentioned.
