Help Build - Home Build Server to run ESX

Thinking of building a home server running VMware ESX.
Spend around £500
Will be mainly for learning and testing purposes, so there won’t be a great deal of load on it, however I would like it to be able to run several VM's

Any suggestions on parts?

If you google Esx whitebox that should give you some ideas on what parts are compatible.
For Esxi I use a HP Proliant ML115 which you can prob get cheap on ebay.

Did you get a machine sorted for running esx?

@Chaos - would you go for one of these machines 2nd hand now (dont think you can buy them new) or would you go for one of the newer g6 dual or quad core intel machines?
