Hi guys, helping a friend spec a new PC, haven't been into components in a while and not sure if this AMD Ryzen stuff has shaken up the Price/performance ratio much.

He's looking for something to purely game on, mainly CSGO, H1Z1, Ark and any other survival type multiplayer games. He's not looking to max out BF1 or anything like that. But looking for a nice platform he can upgrade easier in the future. Hes using one of the old 3 core AMD CPUs and a Nvidia 580 at the moment.

Budget can stretch to £1k. Hes ok with using his own HDD for now untill he can afford an SSD later on if that makes the spec that little bit better.

Thanks in advance.

Does he already have a retail copy of Windows that he could move across? That would allow more cash for components, though to be honest I'm not sure what you could replace for the difference; maybe a higher-specced Z350 motherboard if the extras are deemed useful, or a larger SSD.

Here's one I made earlier... Only one 120GB SSD for storage, if he can re-use his mechanical drive for game installs etc.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £945.84
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Thanks so much for your reply! Lookes like a nice spec

Yes he has a key for windows 10 that he could use. Is the RX480 a better deal in comparison to a 1060 then?

I would advise on getting at least a 4GB GPU for future proofing reasons; so given that the RX480 8GB is around £180 and a 6GB GTX1060 is about £230 at OcUK, that's a bit of a £ difference right there!
Here are a couple of more recent / updated reviews between the two; I think the advice is to essentially decide whether any of the games that perform better on one of the cards matter more to you, or if FreeSync or G-Sync are a requirement.

The other aspect is a bit of a historical one; in recent years, older AMD cards seem to have aged better in terms of performance in new games, and DX12/Mantle/etc seems to have picked up well and therefore the AMD cards might remain playable for a little longer. This is not a given though...

Thanks for the specs guys. I've passed these onto him so he has a good idea of what he can get. Thanks for your help again.
