Hi everyone :)

I am looking into building my own pc for work and playing games.
I am currently training to become a games artist/animator and i need a new pc as i am currently using a laptop which isn't ideal as i need to have it plugged in constantly.
The programmes i will be using include 3ds max, maya, mudbox and photoshop. Also i would like to be able to play games such as skyrim and mass effect on high settings if possible.

I have a few questions as well, as i have never attempted to build a pc before (and i don't want to buy another dell  ) and i only know what i have found in guides online i don't want to start buying parts until i know they will work together.

1) will these parts fit together?
2) is the case suitable?
3) will this build be sufficient for what i want it for?
4) are there any areas that i could reduce the cost in?
5) is it relatively future proof? can i upgrade at a later date without needing to start from scratch?

Hi, and welcome!!

if you post your requirements and budget into a thread in general hardware section they will knock this build spec into shape.

edit:a mod might move this

At first glance I would say it is overspecced.

But I don't see any huge issues. I would suggest a bigger SSD for main apps as 60 may be a bit close.

How has your laptop coped thus far minus power ?

hi thanks for the reply :)
sorry if i posted this in the wrong place :/

the budget isn't really set yet, but the build i have posted is probably the maximum i could go to.
so far the laptop has been ok but it is difficult to use a tablet and it struggle when it comes to 3d rendering.

I did speak to an It technician about building my computer and he suggested the i7 and plenty of RAM, the only reason i don't really want him to build it is that he only uses dell and i don't really want to have to buy another whole computer in a couple of years.

If you're looking for a fast and reliable PC to buy that will be upgradable part by part rather than a full system rebuild every few years, i'd suggest looking at the pre-built computers overclockers have to offer.

If you're feeling adventerous and want to build it yourself, there's some very useful and informative guides on newegg, just search for "how to build a PC" in google and you'll probably get the new egg video's as top search results :)

Also, you've yet to mention a price limit :P
