Hi i have decided that my current rig is no longer quick enough.....which makes me wonder why i bough the gainward bliss 7800gs+...ANyway have decided to get a C2D system now.

Could i please get some help. I plan on using my current case which is a thermaltake soprano. Any idea is a 8800 gtx would fit.
I am completely lost interms of motherboard to buy. PLan on installing vista ultimate. money is not an issue.

Could you please suggest a good motherboard, ram and cpu combo please

HI will the quad CPU work in something like the evga 680 board. Also what is the fastes ram i can use in that board. i'm currently on 2 gig ddr 400 ram and vista really eats it all up. was considering the 4 gig option?

Thank you thr response

The current EVGA 680i on sale here doesn't clock quads too well, but you can send it to EVGA and they'll happily replace it with one of the newer revs. Tho the 680i ASUS Striker will clock quads fine.

As for RAM speed, virtually all Core2Quad boards will handle PC8500 (DDR2-1066) memory. And 4gb is worth it if you want to spend the money on it.

do all of these 680 boards support raid in vista, was thinking of gettin two 150 raptors and putting them into raid for OS and Apps and games and use current 500gig drive for storage. also i have two tv tuner cards which need to be installed will they fit into this board with a 8800 gtx if not 2 gtx's

Yeah they all support RAID in Vista.

You should be ok to run two PCI tuners with a single GTX, but not with two GTX's. A pair of GTX's would render the bottom PCI slot unavailable due to their size.

i have got a antec truepower 650 watts power supply. will that be ok to run a single gtx 2 raptors in raid and 2 wd's 250gig in raid aswell as the tuners and 2 dvd drive?

Sorry for posting all these small questions but dont wanna get anything wrong.

Brilll
So for the record i should get the quad core cpu, evga 680 board and 4gb ocz ram...and use 2 raptors for the OS. 1 gtx or ultra and the antec to power it up....Anyidea if the gtx will fit my case. i currently have the gainward bliss 7800gs+ (the agp one) and it just about fits.

I would look at the ASUS Striker if you're going to overclock the Quad over 3ghz. And a good cooler. The stock Intel cooler isn't much good if you're intending to overclock.

As for the case, the GTX is a fair bit longer than a 7800. You might be better asking in the case or graphics sub-forums.

dont really plan on overclocking. i have got a zalman 7000cu cooler already so might use that to cool it as it fits the 775 socket.

In that case the EVGA board will be grand.

I'm not sure how the Zalman 7000cu will fair with the quads. It's a fair age (I had one on a Socket A system a couple of years ago). I might be worth investing £20 on a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7.
