Just got the data cable for my Canon 300D i picked up cheap, however when i hook it up via USB to my PC it tells me to install the hardware. Searching online gives me nothing and if i click cancel it says there's been a problem installing the hardware and no additional drives appear in windows.

Help! There's no software CD with this apart from the manual on CD :(

Try the canon website. Or a very simple google search. Disconnect the camera, restart the PC, install the drivers you downloaded, restart pc, plug camera in, click automatically find driver or the equivalent and there you have it.

Edit: beaten to it :).

Hope it works, i just guessed thats what you needed. It said it was the driver needed to connect a camera to PC via USB and it was for the 300D.

Goodluck :)

You'll need to get either ZoomBrowser or something like DownloaderPro as well to let you download the images. The Canons don't appear as drive letters the way most cameras do.

Best option is to get a USB CF reader. You don't have to worry about dragging the camera off the desk if you catch the cable, no worries about draining batteries, it's far faster and you'll have to do it this way if you want to shoot in RAW, you can't pull them over the USB link for some reason.

Really?. I never knew that (always use a reader). Not the smartest move by canon really.
