Help! Can't get Xfi Prelude to work with Vista 64 bit SP1

I recently upgraded my PC's processor and motherboard to an Intel Q6600 Quad Core CPU and Asus P5K motherboard from Overclockers. While building this PC I installed a dual boot system with Windows XP 32 bit Sp3 and Windows Vista 64 bit SP1. The Xfi Prelude works flawlessly under Windows XP, but I cannot get it to work at all under Windows Vista. When I install the drivers, Vista tells me that the installation failed, if I go to the device manager the Xfi Prelude has a red cross through it to show it is not working and the Device Manager also shows this information:-

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I have tried three different driver versions and tried moving the card to another PCI slot but it makes no difference. I also tried disabling UAC and driver signing requirements, that made no difference either. I tried Auzentech's technical support but they just ignore me! Can anyone help?

Welcome to the forums.

I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate SP1 and i've never had any problems with it being recognized and the drivers have always installed without any problems. Are you using the very latest drivers, RC5-1_Patch10?

In device manager have you tried right clicking and uninstalling and restarting the computer? Once it's restarted vista will probably say theres no driver ...just click "ask me later" then try installing the driver again.

Yes I've tried that multiple times :( and yes I'm using RC5-1_Patch10

I'd be thinking IRQ conflict or something but the card works fine under XP... I really am at a loss as to what to try next

Hmm....i'm not sure what it could be as i've never had that problem.

Since you said you just got a new motherboard, maybe its a motherboard issue with vista??. Have you tried updating your BIOS to the latest?. I don't see why it could be that since it works in XP, but anything is possible.

Did it go to... RC5-1_Patch10 > Audio > Setup > setup.exe?

Is it a fresh windows install?

Do you have both windows on the same hard drive?.. as that might be the problem.

Thanks for your suggestions TheMagic1an...

Yeah tried a BIOS upgrade, no difference. At least I know now it's not a Vista SP1 problem.

RC5-1_Patch10 > Audio > Setup > setup.exe? - Yep that's what I clicked

Is it a fresh windows install? - Yes not done much with it really because I can't get my sound card working !

Vista and XP are installed on the same physical hard drive, but under different partitions and with a boot manager that sets them both to show up as C:\ drive.

Still no help from Auzentech ether!

I wonder what it could be then :/ .

Have you tried putting the sound card in a different PCI slot?.

If you have onboard sound, disable it in the BIOS if you haven't done so already.

I sent a webnote to auzentech about a problem that i have with a game and they still haven't replied. That's been over 2 weeks, which is terrible.

Yep onboard sound is disabled and tried the card in two PCI slots.

Strange about Auzen's tech support because I e-mailed them a question about SPDIF mode when I first got the card and they replied within a few days! Wonder what's up with them?

I had this problem on these drivers - had to go back to the previous set in the end, which sorted it.

Auzentech thanked me for the info and told me new drivers would be out in May (with DTS encoding support). Guess they're running late.

I had this problem and had to re-install Vista and install an older set.

I guess they could be just busy, but i guess it depends whos on the other end. Some people reply right away and some don't. Hopefully they will reply soon.

Not sure what else you could try, but you could try what Tombo has suggested as you have nothing much to loose.

They got back to me today and told me to do pretty much exactly the same as you told me, TheMagic1an :) I tried again following their instructions exactly, didn't work. I e-mailed back and told them that did not work, no reply yet but I guess it's still pretty early over there. In the e-mail they sent me they said they would have a new driver out in a few days, so I might wait for that before I try a reinstall.

Oh and thanks for all your help everyone.
