I'm currently so confused on which motherboar to buy... i havent kept up to date with PC's for ages so im not totally sure on everything...

So far, i've got 2 in mind the Asus Maximus Gene mATX + ASUS V PRO.

Could someone either tell me which one is better or give me aan alternative for under 160? it'd be using in a gaming/multimedia rig with a i5 3570k processor.

(the case isnt final but looking at the CM Enforcer)

Thanks in advance guys!

Maximus V gene is an absolute monster clocker for the money so thats a great choice. It has a very mature Bios and is compatable with a lot of RAM.

Gigabyte UP4 TH is a very stable alternative that runs cool with the TH technology Voltage Regulators. This is full atx too so offers more expansion slots.

MSI Xpower is also a great board in this price range.

Any of the above in my book will serve you best and get the best clocks from any CPU and RAM.

will you be buying a new gpu or using an old one same with HDD.

Do you plan to overclock? or sli or crossfire letting us know how many slots you need would help

Its hard to advise with so little information

z77 is a descent chipset , i5 3570k is a agood chip i have it myself,

Got the Asus P8 Z77 V Pro here, been pretty impressed with it so far. Very well layed out, has pretty good spacing should you wish to go sli/xfire and the bios is nice and easy to use.
