Hi,

My missus has just been hit by a wagon on southbound M6 by knutsford, she is ok but dragged car down slow lane ! Damage to car is irrelevant as firms car but wagon has drove off whilst she was on phone to Police. I informed police and highways agency and they don't appear to be interested !!!

Anything I can do ? It was a blue and white H g v that's all she knows bless, scary the fact that nobody seems interested !

Any advice ?

Cheers

Any other driver’s /witnesses stop? Any traffic monitoring cameras near the by?

I can't see anyone getting away with a hit and run on a major motorway.

What did the police say exactly..? How bad a collision was it?

Hi,

Thanks for reply, nobody stopped, unbelievable ! She got pushed across the three lanes !!!

She is home now car a mess ! I would not have believed either that you could get away with this and also the police or lack of response !

Whilst it's appalling that the HGV driver - nor anybody else - didn't stop, it's possible the driver was unaware of the collision (although in my opinion from the point of view of a Class 1 HGV driver I deem this most unlikely given the driver has mirrors!) I'm fairly sure that stretch of the M6 is well camera covered, maybe the highways agency can assist you/her.

In the mean time, just be thankful she's here to tell the tale! And be sure to search here for my HGV blind spot thread and make her have a look.

I'm guessing she was in one of the vehicles somewhat large blind spots, hence the driver not seeing the initial collision, as I say though, had he been checking his mirrors he certainly should have seen the aftermath and acted accordingly.

It's possible he didn't feel anything - a 1ton car bumping into a 44ton artic, especially if it hits the trailer,is usually surprisingly masked to the driver.

In no way am I blaming her, just pointing out what jumps out to me given I've seen many similar incidents over the years.

As I say, glad she's ok, cars can be repaired......

In a nut shell, it's only a damage-only collision where one person has failed to stop. Unsurprisingly, this is down the list of police priorities. The other driver has long gone and your wife is safe, there is no need for police to visit your wife or go anywhere on "blues and twos."
You usually just fill in some forms and the incident gets investigated in slow time.
If there was an injured party, then it would be different.

sorry to hear that but glad she's alright! Dislike going past lorries on dual carriageways/motorways... always think something like is going to happen, also did a few weeks ago too! was on a dual carrigeway and in overtaking lane over taking a few cars and a lorry.... when I get along side the lorry another car pulls out a few cars infront so I'm kinda stuck there...slowly pushing forwards as the pull out slowly overtakes whatever....

when I get right along side the lorry cabs back wheels he just starts pulling over into my lane and indicates after he starts to move. I swerved to the right as he almost hits me and my right wheel hits the curb on the central reservation.

luckily the traffic within these like 2 seconds is pulling forwards so I able to pull away and blast my horn too as I squeeze out the gap. needless to say bricks were ****!

hate these situations..... not really sure what the lorry driver was thinking as if he had even glanced in his mirrors in the past 10 seconds he would have seen the stream of cars over taking him....there was a car just behind me too so if he missed me he must have seen him :p

first thought was... oh ****! I'm going under the wheels.... then when i hit the curb my thoughts changed to, this car is going to flip up into the air, spin and land on the wrong side into oncoming traffic.....luckily just a scuffed plastic wheel trim xD
