I have moved in with my girlfriend who currently has Sky and is paying a fortune for use of all services but doesn't use much of it. I am wanting to sign for for fibre optic broadband only I'm looking at the following providers.

Plusnet
BT Infinity
Sky

I have always used VM but as thats not available I am looking for the next best option. As I say just broadband as we will be streaimung all content, needs to be fast obviously.

Currently with Sky this is the result, not good :(

Just gone with plusnet 76mb, was with talktalk @ 20 down .8 up

Best bet is see what is available to you. I know plusnet's site will see what you can get. BT too.

From looking around its looking like Plusnet have the best option unless folks can come up with any other options?

Any of the three mentioned in the OP are normally decent, personally i'd avoid BT due to previous experiences (they can't even follow a simple process when you tell them what's wrong and what process to follow). Sky and Plusnet have been superb for me at home and at work respectively but Sky you need to push for a deal as the retail is high. Use Quidco and see what the best deal for you is.

As to coming from VM to Fibre i'll be honest VM may be faster on paper, but Sky/PN are actually unlimited. I had a run in with VM (i'm ex staff) over my usage being higher than they deemed acceptable. I'll take a consistent and reliable connection that's slower, over one that's throttled for hours at a time and I get letters complaining that i've downloaded too much without telling me how much is OK and how much I have downloaded.

You name ANY ISP and you can find people who have had no problem, people who have had a fantastic service and people who have had nothing but trouble from day one.
Searching around usually doesn't help - those that fall into the "problems" category are vocal. You don't tend to go onto a forum and praise a service, you go on a forum to vent frustration.

What's interesting to note is that some ISP's are starting to offer a trial. I think Sky do and I believe Talk Talk might as well. So you sign up and if you're not happy after a few weeks you can cancel the contract with nothing to pay.
Other than that - see where the best deal is to be had.
I'm currently moving to Talk Talk for my 80/20 service - although there are plenty of people who say don't, plenty who say it'll be fine/great.
For me it's mainly for the £15/month I'm saving over my current BT contract which has drawn me into this. I go live on the 8th, so I can give my honest verdict a couple of weeks later once my new connection has settled.

Not quite true - Reppyboyo recommended Zen and I've never heard a bad word about them. They're expensive though.

So today the Opeanreach engineer turned up to install/upgrade the existing g BT line to fibre optic. Thing is he didn't bring the Plusnet router or starter pack. I'm now sitting without internet until the 8th Jan until Plusnet activate the line and they send out the router. The existing old Sky broadband is not working due to the new phone line setup. Aaaarrrrgh. Time to catch up on films I guess.
