Hi guys, first post here :)

i have a system with the following

i7 920 2.66
xfx gtx 285 (used to have a 4870x2 but malfuctioned and got the 285 as replacement + some other stuff)
P6T deluxe
corsair 6gb
case origen 21T

Everything was fine till recently. i was playing the latest call of duty with no issues but 3weeks ago decided to buy the bf3. Then i was not able to play the game on full specs 1920x1200 with high i got shakes in the process and i had to put low. Even in medium specs i got some flickering etc

Now at low the game gets stuck after 2-3hours i believe the card is getting hot but the nvidia control panel doesnt have anything that allows me to control the card fan like ati had

Anyways, i'm off for a meeting in the US next week and i'm thinking of buying a new card.

i need to have 3-4 outputs as the pc is hooked to the tv, projector, monitor and the case touch screen. Should i buy something like the 7970 or is it too much? I'm not considered with any benchmarks just to be able to play the game at full with no issues

would a 6990/6970 do the work? should i get a 7970 since i will be in the US

Also any issue with the size? Given i had a 4870x2 it should be ok right? My case is quite big but the structure is strange is its a htpc case

thanks for the help :):):)

It depends on your budget mainly.

If you can afford a 7970, go for it. It's cheaper in the US compared to the UK. Also you may be able to claim back VAT at the airport.

2nd option would be either a 6970 or a 580 1.5gb.

Edit: I'd also recommend overclockering your cpu to 3.6ghz to not bottleneck the cards.

i have a big home cinema, lots of equipment loaded into a rack including the htpc case. It's not a normal one, you can check some pictures here, its actually much bigger than a lot of normal cases and all aluminum

have a look here

Case specs

I will search about overclocking the 920. Never done this before so i guess will need some reading or ask a friend :P

cheers for the replies
