Hi all, as the title says really.
She is looking for something that is £30 a year to tax / good fuel economy.

The main cars we are looking at are Clio's, Peugeot 207's, Fiesta's ( Peugeot 106's are a bit small ). Her budget is £4000

What do you think of the above cars ? I personally like clios myself but Im really not that knowledgeable on pros / cons of various cars these days.

Cheers.

Whilst paying only £30 VED is good, I wouldn't make it a priority and rule out other slightly more expensive VED brackets cars.

I say this but I only pay £20 VED!

Any saving you make on tax might be taken up by insurance if you look at common 'first cars' such as Clios and Fiestas.

Thing is, her £30 a year tax requirement is severely limiting her choice of cars/engines. I'm not saying go and buy a 3 litre BMW, but even small engined petrol ford fiestas etc under 4k are more than £30/year. I can only assume you're looking at diesels since you're looking at fiestas. Modern diesels come with vastly more things to go wrong than a simple petrol with no turbo, so you save a few pounds a year on fuel + tax then spend it all when it breaks.

Personally I'd go with a 1.6 litre petrol Ford Focus. I owned a Mk1, but for your money you'd be in for a nice mk2. They're reliable, cheap and easy to maintain and more refined than the class below them (fiesta etc). If you get a good one and look after it properly it should go on for many, many years.
