Hi,
Im getting my son a laptop. It's primarily for school work but as he likes playing games I figured I'd look for one with dedicated graphics so he'll get more use of it.
I've found 2 but can't decide which to go for. They're both £500 and both have 15.6" screen, 8GB DDR4 and a 1 TB hard drive.
The first is an Acer F15, core i3-6100u and a Geforce GTX 950M 2GB.
The second is a LENOVO IDEA PAD 510, core i5-6200u and a GeForce 940MX.
I'm guessing both will cover the school work requirement without much fuss.
That just leaves games.
From what I can gather the Acer 950m card outperforms the 940mx. But I read ideally the 950 should be paired with an i5. Would this negate the 950's advantage?
I appreciate these aren't performance cards. All i require is that they can produce graphics for any game at a level that won't detract from the playability of the game. Am I being optimistic at this price point?
My gut feeling is the acer with the 950 paired with the i3 is likely to make its graphical performance advantage negligible over the Lenovo. As the Lenovo has an i5 and assuming the 940 can do as required then I should go for Lenovo. But I don't know really. I'm just guessing.
Is there a better laptop for my money that I have not considered?
I'd be grateful for your opinions. Thanks in advance.
