Looking to make my first comp something along the lines of:

Q6600
Abit IP35 Pro XE
2x 2GB ram
8800GTX

Already have a 750w psu and all the hdds i need

Just wondering if the mobo is a good choice...

Heard that gigabyte is a better make and that asus has reliablility problems but other than that i dont know anything about mobos
It would only be used for minor gaming and o'cing other than that it would only be school crswk and internet browsing

Any more info you need ill try and post
thanks in advance

If you not on overclock so any board it wil be fine but depend on your budget. I would go for P5Q Deluxe or Biostar TPower I45. 4870 will better than 8800GTX.

ahh ye, was looking at the p5Q Deluxe as being top end of my budget

and about the 4870, i know very little about ATi cards so i may be wrong but from what i heard the 4800 series can get up to temperatures of 77 C.

I say this because of where it would go... where my comp is under my table, surrounded by two walls and wardrobe thus getting very little cooling. If i where to go down the 4870 root what cooling would you recommend as i had not planned to have very much.

thanks

Stick anything electrical in an enclosed area with next to no airflow and its gonna hit 77+ degrees eventually anyway.

look at the Asus 4870 as it has a far better cooler than the stock one, this is compared to the HIS and Sapphire branded ones too. Sapphire went to 100+, HIS was noisy as hell, Asus has been spot on, even at 100% fan its no louder than the fan on my X800GTO2. Whereas the stock fans on both the other cards had people in vent complainin, even they could hear it.

As for mobos, I went with the p5q pro, altho the Biostar is meant to be very good OCer.

sorry i didnt reply ive been away for the past two days

@ Divine
thanks for the advice on the 4870 will take that into account

@FROZEN
didnt know about that;RMA will be impossible after a few months once they start to run low on boards. Will also take that into account

after your advice i think ill get :
q6600
p5q deluxe
ocz 2x2gb
an upgraded hsf, not sure which one yet thinking Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro/Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme

and an asus 4870

thanks for all your help
