Hi .. I am sure this has been asked a million times but here i go anyway

I have £500 for a new card and I have been looking at all the cards and i am not sure what to go for, I would like to stick with Nvidia ..

I also noticed that the GTX 690's are a lot more than the newer GTX 780 why is that?

I was reading on Toms Hardware that the GTX 770 is really good value for money.. is that card worth considering instead of the 780?

right now i have 2 x 560ti's SLI main game i play is BF3 so would like something that can handle that and the up and coming BF4 please

Any help will really be appreciated

thanks

Hi,

A GTX690 has two graphics processors on the pcb, where as the 780 has one. The 690 is approximately the same speed as 670s in SLI.

What resolution do you run? Also, what cpu and power supply do you have?

Assuming the above checks out, I would look at this :

670 SLI is another option, though to keep the cards quiet you may need to up the budget very slightly, but if that's not likely to be an issue :

Edit : the 780 is approx 20 - 25% faster than the 770.

Hi

hmm 1920 x 1080
Krypton z68 i5 3.3ghz CPU
corsair TX 750W 80 plus bronze PSU

I was talking to someone and they recommended Gainward GTX770 Phanton 4096, then maybe SLI it a bit later

What do you think

Nice card, but you don't need that much memory for that resolution.

Edit : ignore my question. That cpu and speed is great, though you may find that the lack of hyper threading might hold back the gpu usage in SLI set ups for a few games, e.g. BF3.

so if you had the choice.

the 780

or 760 sli not bothered about the noise

or 770 .. bare in mind that maybe around xmas i would SLI

Sounds like i might need to change my cpu to a i7 then for the hyper threading..

I don't have BF3, so I would advise to check out thoroughly the point I raised - though I have seen a fair bit of forum chat about it recently. I don't think there are many games that ideally require an i7 for increased dual gpu usage, but I'm pretty sure BF3 is one of them.

Assuming I'm correct, to answer your question - depending on what settings / fps you expect when playing.....I would try an get by on one fast gpu for 1080p, so a 670 / 680 / 770. Failing that, and if it matters that much to you then yes, an i7 would be the next step should you wish to run two cards.

Out of interest, have you monitored your gpu usage in game for your current SLI set up?

Edit : found one of the threads about it :

hmmm no never checked .. i will check it tonight :)

I can play BF3 with everything on max without problems until it gets to a map with lots of sand dust and same 8 or so players around.. then i lag a little

thanks for the other link i will check that out now whilst i eat lunch :D

I'd go for a 780, BF3 is also my main game and BF4 when it releases. The 780 really destroys BF3.

770 is nice, but it's just a 680 at the end of the day, personally I wanted new architecture.
