Hi,

I am currently using a Samsung LCD screen which is 24" but can only go as high as 720p

I'm looking to upgrade but would like some help as I have never bought a screen to be used purely for PC gaming so am not entirely sure what I'm looking for.

I have just got an HD5870 and would like to utilise this. Unless someone tells me different I don't really want anything lower than 1920 x 1200 res?? Would def love the higher res of 2560 x 1600 (Sorry if those are not the correct figures like I say I'm new to this

I have seen the Acer G24 oid for £198 and this seems like a great choice!! However, I don't really trust my judgement so would love a more knowledgable point of view! Her are the specs for it:

PC, Metallic copper, 1920 x 1200 / 60 Hz, 0.27 mm, 400 cd/m2, 50000:1 (dynamic), 24-bit (16.7 million colours), 2 years warranty

BTW I'd love to put my Samsung screen for sale on here but can't find where it is? Can anyone point me in the right direction??

Id say £250 at a max.

Just had a look online and that screen I originally wrote about - Acer G24 OID seems to be like £300+ everywhere else?? On the same website the Samsung SM2433BW 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor, which OcUk have priced at £213 is only £135??

Have I found the greatest web site ever... or just the scam of the week? The site seems legit? With their prices I could get an AWESOME screen on my budget!!!

Thanks

Well we arn't supposed to talk about competitors here, but may I just confirm that the monitor isn't the 2233BW? I ask because this monitor has a very similar model number and generaly costs around £140.

The G24 and the 2433BW/2233BW all use TN panels. There is nothing wrong with these, but they are not as good as other technologies such as VA and IPS. Here is a good article which explains the differences.

Superewza pointed out the dell 2209wa. this is a fantastic monitor that uses an eips panel. Here is a review. So far 3 of my friends and family have these monitors and they all are extremely happy with the monitor.

Thanks for the comments!

cmndr andi - I can confirm that it is the 2433BW. Like I also said they have the Acer G24 OID at under £200 and I can't see that anywhere else for less than £300+ .

I will read that article when I get the time. That sounds like the exact thing I needed as I don't understand the terminology at the moment! :)

Ok now I know I can't say the competitors name but I will try and give hints as I see those everywhere:

1. 1st word is the the short version of when you purchase something. It begins with a b = b**

2. 2nd word is the colour you are known as when you go eco-friendly or if you are envious = g****

3. 3rd word is the actual word for ( . ). So you would not write overclockers.co.uk but overclockers(word)co(word)uk. = d**

1+2+3.com

Seems legit enough. I will make my decision today and then let everyone know if I get screwed. Obviously if I do get screwed I will come back wimpering with my tail between my legs but at these prices one of us have got to try it eh?? Actuaally I will Google them 1st!!

Haha typed their name into Google and instantly saw "scam" written everywhere. :)

Ah well... was too good to be true I suppose!!

Right back to the drawing board then. I appreciate some of the suggestions and Im def leaning towards the Samsung. I don't wan't to drop below the 24" mark and my top budget would be £250 depending on if I can sell my monitor. However I am quite a few posts away from being able to do that sooo...

ARRGGGHHH :)
