My OH is due to pop any day now but we can't agree on a first name. The littleun will be a boy and we're open to suggestions. I'd like a name that belonged to an interesting historical figure, with possibly Celtic or old English meaning and the Mrs would like something different but not ridiculous.

Give me yer best OcUK.

Alfred. There's your interesting historical Anglo-Saxon (Old English) figure.

If you want to be unusual (i.e. set your child up for ridicule), spell it the original way - Ælfred.

EDIT: Or be really original and use the Futhorc system of runes.

How about Caractacus? He led the resistance to the Roman invasion of Britain, with a fair degree of success, and was noted for his nobility, intelligence and civilised behaviour. There's a good "Celtic" figure.

Make sure you pick something really wacky or really cute - don't whatever you do put any consideration into how the name will feel for them when they are 20 or something.

Thats the done thing these days isnt it?
