Help choosing between i7-6800K vs i7-6850K

Am looking at upgrading from my i7-4770 to one the x99 setups which am hoping to do before the free window 10 upgrade is over (29 july)

Can anyone tell me if the only difference between the i7-6800K and i7-6850K is a 200mhz clock speed ?
(surely it not worth paying an extra £160 for just an extra 200mhz on the i7-6850K )

The 6850k has 40 pci lanes and the 6800k has 28 pci lanes, 2 gpus config the 6800k 3 gpu's the 6850k would be better..

Am never going be running a three GPU setup in TRI-SLI (not even sure if NVidia new 10 series still support tri-SLI)

But does 28 vs 40 lanes effect two way SLI at all or anything else like M2 SSD's or memory speeds ?

no.

Just be careful if you go with the newer cpu's as the motherboard may need a bios update for the to accept the cpu .

The 5820k will work without a bios update.

im sure the diffrence its not just 200mhz if you go on intels website look at all the features there will be more diffrences but those again still wont matter to you just take look tho

How about check before posting if you don't know what you're talking about and possibly confusing others?

Apart from PCI-E lanes mentioned before there is no difference. These are same architecture CPUs within even the same segment.

Save yourself another £50 and buy the 5820K if overclocking and going for X99...

Haswell-E CPU's tend to overclock better than Broadwell-E one more then making up the small IPC gains whilst using less power and generating less heat

On paper it kinda does (x16 for each GPU would require 32 lanes and any PCI-E SSDs would add to that) but x16 x8 is almost exactly as fast and still leaves you 4 lanes for a PCI-E SSD (Not saying 'M.2' as that's a connector type/form factor and can be PCI-E or SATA or other - worth a read if looking in this area)

So basically mickyflinn was right though some argue it based on always wanting x16 x16.
