But i have never used AMD, is it worth it? Or should we wait until the price cuts for Intel ?

We are in no rush for now, but i want to start the ball rolling.

You dont say what os his using ,if its 32 bit not much point going to 4 gig ram.

Why not? He'll still get to use ~3.7gb of Ram out of the 4gb as 256mb will be negated by the graphics card. More Ram equals more space to store samples for music when working and less use of the swapfile on the hard drive.

If your brother isn't gaming then that system should be fine, you however don't have a PSU listed so if you have one and it isn't from a decent brand then you should budget for one - £35ish will get you an Antec Earthwatts 380w which is easily sufficient for that system.

I did not include a sound card as he will need a real sound card not some 7.1 gamer card there is not anything suitable on this site but would recommend a M audio external firewire card that would cost round £170 for the solo or £260 for the 410.The other option is the M audio Audiophile 2496 pci card for £70 .You might think the the cooler is a bit extravagant but silence is paramount in a music pc which is why I went for integrated graphic ie less power ,heat, noise and better air flow.
