Hey guys

I've just had my 50 meg installed which came with Virgin's failhub. Rather than wait for the thing to start dropping (like every other netgear router I've had) I want to get some homeplugs for my ps3 which is currently downstairs. Cat 5 isn't a possiblity as the wife has already said no as the router is upstairs and would need a lot of work.

Has anyone had good/bad experiences and should I go for the fastest possible speed with them? If they prove to be good then I would get more to connect to the ps3 in the loft (would I need to get another pair?).

Thanks in advance

Same standard 100% markup.. Paying for the name tbh.

They do have some 1gbps homeplugs emerging but their usefulness is debatable at present

Thanks Liam

I read your post and thought they looked really good before I made this thread but I didn't want to miss out on a superior product if it was available for similar money.

I'm going to go with the TP-Link set.

Thanks for the help guys

Quick update

I ordered the TP set from a different site because I couldn't get free delivery here and I'm over the moon with them. Setting them up was a doddle and was only hindered by my speed at getting up the stairs (dodgy ankle). At the moment I have them set up with my PS3 and all my connection issues have disapeared.

Thanks again guys

Best invention in recent history in my book (OK, there may have been some more important/better ones, but none that I've found so useful and "out-of-the-box" working).

They may be good in places BUT if there's a Radio Ham guy living within 100m of your house then you may get a visit from OFCOM as these homeplugs ALL makes cause some real problems on the Radio Spectrum and OFCOM know about it but still they get imported.

I had a guy buy a pair for his BT Vision system to use it up stairs, it killed my 1.8-30Mhz radio and when I transmitted it knocked the socks off it LoL so he took them off and used CAT5 cable or I think he just got a second box. But had no problems since he got rid.

I realise they're not ideal but I'm hoping it won't affect anybody.

I probably sound really selfish but lag free gaming is more important than the chance I might kill some of the local frequency. Of course if someone knocks on my door and complains then I'll do something about it but at the moment I'm loving them.

Yep I know what you mean. Same problem when some one changed there TV, started picking up my Ham signals when I was on. Came round almost bashed my front door in to get me to turn the radio off and came out with your radio's knocking my 1k TV about. Its ur C£$P CB radio thats doing it.

Told the guy well it aint CB radio and have you changed anything, I've being using it for 25 years LOL. Answer yep just bought a new TV just cost me over a grand so ur cheep CB set up is killing it. Well I wouldn't say cheep as the main radio I use cost me over 8 grand and the antenna system is worth over 10 grand!!!

LOL he buggered off with his tail between his legs and got in touch with manufactures who sent him a replacement TV!!!!

Homeplugs are generally fantastic, rarely lose connection with them than with wireless. Bog standard homeplugs are usually adequate, and the 200mbs are rarely needed unless your network can handle it and you are intent on streaming 1080p media.

I had some 85mbps home plugs and they were stuttering when streaming movies from my NAS

Upgraded to the 200mbps and they work flawlessly!

Yup, the 200 mbps are better for streaming, but my network didn't even allow the 200mbs so it was pointless for me. Just ordered another set of 85mbps homeplugs, they work a treat for my PS3, never cut out.

If the network allows it and you want to stream HD media then the 200mbps are the way to go, for sure.

Sorry for digging up my old thread but after using the TP homeplugs for a while now I was thinking of adding another homeplug to the network as we have a PS3 in each of the downstairs living rooms (1 wireless, 1 with the TP homeplug).

Is it possible to add another slave or do they only work in pairs? if it is possible can they both be used at the same time or will there be an ip conflict?

Thanks for quick response and the clarification Bremen.

I wasn't sure how it worked although I had it in my head that it could only have one slave. Obviously I was wrong.

Keep up the good work and thanks again.
