What do you think? My budget is MAX £1500 but if the job can be done for less, even better....
Any pointers would be great - if you think the mob/cpu/gpu etc is the wrong choice, please adv what you think would be better suited for price and performance-

Cheers

I think that it looks good, and will definately be a massive upgrade for you, but I would recommend you look at a different PSU, Corsair, Be Quiet! or enermax will be a lot better than that akasa in terms of reliability. Personally I would get a Be Quiet myself, they cost more but will definately be worth the extra expense. Also you might want to consider a better CPU cooler than the stock one, the akasa nero is a good price for its performance.

What size monitor you using? If its a 4 year old monitor too then theres a good chance the gfx card will be overkill, unless youre getting a new 24"+ monitor too?

Good point.

If you're playing 1900X1200 and above, then the 4870X2 is fine. Otherwise, it's overkill.

I'm interested in this Overkill term, Im getting this card on my 17' Monitor which handles 1080x1024 which i guess is standard for a 17'.

What does it mean? im not using the real full power of the card, so i might aswell of got a lower priced one instead to run it at those resolutions?

I do need a new Monitor but i dont want a huge one, i was thinking maybe a 19' would do it?

Yeah basically, if you're not planning on going above 19" monitor then theres no point spending so much on a gfx card, the monitor will hold back the gfx card basically
If you have no plans to go bigger than this then a half gig 4870 will more than suffice, 4850 even
