Hello,

In a week or 2 I will be building a gaming rig with the following specs. After struggling to find the Watt PSU I need I thought i'd ask the experts as the PSU calculators seem extremely overestimated.

-Haswell i5 4670k oc'd to 4.5 GHz
-Gigabyte Z87X-OC Mb
-2x GTX 780's sli
-oc V8 Water cooling kit
-SSD 6gbs
-1 HDD
-8GB corsair memory
-Obsidian 650D

thanks in advance for replys

is there much difference between the HX and AX series when it comes to performance and build quality?

£40 more for platinum efficiency over gold isn't really wort it IMO, the energy saving probably won't pay for itself in the PSU's lifetime

The AX's are mostly Seasonic internals whereas the HX's are either Seasonic or Channel Well. If your the type that believes Seasonic are the only company that can possibly make decent PSU components then that makes the AX better, if you take a more sensible approach then its better to judge each PSU on its own merits, personally I wouldn't care if the PSU has CWT or Seasonic internals, their both made to a very high standard and have great warranty.

Between Corsair and XFX I would opt for Corsair (despite having an XFX lol) unless the price was prohibitive, as both look good and have quality internals however most high end Corsairs have flat modular cables which cab easily be routed (and you can buy aftermarket cables for them for aesthetics) whereas XFX's usually come with modular cables on part with what you would expect from a CiT or an OcUK own brand PSU (going from a CM silent pro to the XFX xxx edition and having heard all the raving about XFX I was actually shocked by how poor the XFX cables were in comparison).
