Hi guys! I have a cracking matched pair of GTX 580s that I'm selling.

I repasted them with some standard Akasa 455 I had bundled with TIM cleaner.. but since I'm selling them to a friend I'd like to consider a repaste and re-pad (to coin a new verb?) to maximise cooling in his new system.

My OCUK technician friend has recommended Thermal Grizzly and the reviews are rave... so I might try this thermal pad here.

I'm also getting myself some Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut for my 2600k's new overclock so I might just bang that on the 580s too.

What do you think? Thanks.

I have heard that IC Diamond is not recommended on GPU dies as it tends to scratch.

Everywhere I have read seems to indicate Thermal Grizzly stuff is above average so I don't think you can really go wrong!

Pads in general don't tend to go off from my experience, paste does over time.

Wish when I bought something second-hand someone would clean it all up and repaste it first!

True, true. Well, my friend isn't components-savvy so I want them to just work when I sell them. They'll be alright without it but... I like to make things as perfect as I can wherever I can.

I think I'll get those .5mm thermal pads and look into the IC Diamond scratching.. bearing in mind the next owner of the cards will *never* repaste them therefore he won't scratch them by rubbing off the TIM etc...

I wouldn't get IC diamond it is quite abrasive, not only that but it's hard as rock. I used some on my 5930k and it barely spread even after it had been in hot water. My temps were poor aswell. I'd Get gelid GC 3 extreme which is one of the best pastes available, very easy to apply and also very cheap considering its performance. That's what I have on my Gpu's + cpu and temps are great, lower than other pastes (as5, EK ectotherm).

Other than that thermal grizzly kryonaut is good but it's expensive, still on par with gc3 aswell.
