Hi guys i looking for some help cloning a drive, in the passed ive always used macrium reflect but the last few times it failed when removing the old drive and windows will just crash on boot.

im wanting to clone a 2tb drive(SSD) that's on low health but not wanting it to fail obviously..
what am i doing wring

Could try another program to do the clone such as Hasleo backup suite.

Need more details on what actually happens when you try and boot after cloning the drive.

Are you getting an error message? Can you try and repair the boot record with Windows on a USB key and running a startup repair?

do the close and it works fine you can boot from it and so on, until you pull the original drive then just crash loading into windows

Is the original boot drive working correctly? Maybe run the system file checker command on it and try cloning again with Hasleo.

Failing that, I would pull any important files and do a clean install on the new drive.

so i did the clone and again boom... its fine till you pull the drive. i set up a USB and it gives the option for a boot recovery but wont load anything.
ill just have to do a fresh install

Have you set the software to reboot after the clone? What's your bios set to boot from?

It would reboot. It just loops back into windows. I’ve tried a few times to do the clone and ever time it’s just the same.

There is something not moving over from the old drive. If I do the clone from a usb caddy. Then unplug it the system will not shut down. If I force it in some way it won’t boot.

If I do the clone then shutdown and remove the drive to just send me to windows recovery and can’t be fixed

What are you cloning from and to?

Presumably you are cloning the whole drive not just the Windows partition?

Are both drives connected in the same way? E.g. both sata on the same controller (not a 3rd party extra sata that some motherboards had?)

I know Cloning SATA to NVME can cause issues
