I have been having big issues with Company of Heroes.

My RAM failed on my computer: So I upgraded the RAM and at the same time also upgraded the motherboard. Now I have done so Company of Heroes doesn't work, at all. Not only this I seem to be the only person I can find experiencing these errors.

CPU - QX6700 @ 3.0Ghz
RAM - OCZ DDR3 1600Mhz 8Gb
GPU - 8800GTS 640mb x 2 SLI
MoBo - MSI P7N Diamond

NOTE: This upgrade also caused the same problem with my already preinstalled Company or Heroes.

From the begging: Booted onto original OS, Windows 7 x64, already installed from before RAM failure. CoH would load but images and video were sometimes distorted as well as scratches appearing all over the screen. I thought this would be a HDD corruption as I had to reboot hundreds of times to install Windows 7 (Long story). Then tried re-installing CoH, turns out you cannot re-install or repair just uninstall. I tried uninstall and reinstall then CoH would crash on load, just after videos.

Next step: I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate onto another new and blank HDD. Updated latest drivers, etc. not a single problem with hardware or compatability (Certainly not in Device Manager) and Windows says my hardware is performing perfectly. Installed CoH and exact same problem.

Step three: I then trowled around the internet for about a day, except for work, and came up with nothing. Decided to update the DirectX drivers, searched for DirectX10 as CoH dump file was saying it was running 9.0. Realised there is only a single DX web installer and ran that.

Step four: Success! CoH loads after the videos! Although the images are distorted in exactly the same way as they were on original install. Then, CoH crashes again after around 20-30 seconds in different places.

N.B/ During any of the installations I couldn't update CoH in game as it would crash before downloading more than a single Mb of the patch. Also CoH refused to let me patch the game manually as it says:

Code:
An internal check has failed. Please contact THQ technical support for assistance (Error code: 10148)

Or...

Code:
This patch updates Company of Heroes version 2.101.0, but you have an unrecognised version installed. If logging into Relic Online to download the latest patch does not solve this problem you may need to reinstall Company of Heroes. (Error code: 10267)

It maintains these errors and problems regardless of which operating system, CoH version or anything except hardware, DirectX and drivers.

If anybody understands the dump files I will post them below.

I have spent days trying to fix this but to no avail! As I said I cannot find anyone with similar problems and I have been scowering the internet. Though what is intresting to note from the warnings file is:

Snippet (warnings.log)
Code:
05:44:56.03 Dx10Program : Unable to find shader script for 'fxshader_multiply' in the ShaderDatabase.
05:44:56.44 Dx10Program : Unable to find shader script for 'fxshader_depthadditive' in the ShaderDatabase.

I feel like taking a sledgehammer to the thing!

Is your CPU overclocked?

Try it at stock, also, try with just 1x graphics card in.

Also, this looks like you only have 1gb ram..

"OS NT 5.1 (sp2.0) x64, 1024MB Physical Memory"

What voltage does your ram require? make sure it's set to the right setting in the bios

For me, it's been a very very stable game. It also scales very well, I've had it running on an Athlon XP3200 with a Geforce 4 ti4400!

ram problems, you shouldnt hve any problems installing updates etc,

try prime95 for a few hours see if you are stable

i play COH on Win 7 HP 64 with zero issues in dx10. i also used 8800GT flawlessly and now ati hd5830 with some minor irritations.

I have 8Gb OCZ DDR3 1600Mhz (1066Mhz) at 1.65 Volts it is just CoH that doesn't see it. Before the full installation of DirectX it couldn't see any RAM installed what-so-ever. I did post my spec prior to the dump files so it would be easy to see that the RAM it is using is not the RAM I have installed.

I have tried with single graphics card and SLI. CoH for me was also a very stable game until my RAM failed, now it cannot run or update.

I will try chaning my CPU from 2.9Ghz to 2.66Ghz (Stock) and see if that makes a difference, although I had he same problems prior to overclocking. Also turning Intel EIST (Speedstep) off.

With SpeedStep turned off the Windows Boot Manager does not load... ?

Trying recommended memory timings and voltage. (1.65V 1066Mhz at 7-7-7-24)
Also changed CPU multiplier back down to 10 with automatic voltage control.

Once booted into Windows even that does not load. It has reverted me back to low resolution and to a desktop with only the mouse cursor.

Okay on reboot it has reset the VGA controller: Windows couldn't install the drivers for some reason. I also have been downloading and installing the 8800 drivers all day, when I was downloading the drivers again it appears there has been an update today!

GeForce/ION Driver Release 256

Version:

257.21 WHQL
Release Date:

2010.06.15
Operating System:

Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit
Language:

English (UK)
File Size:

155 MB

Lets try these drivers and see if it makes a difference. Although I don't want to get my hopes up...

Well I am buggered, it won't even install the drivers now...

During the original installation it tested the video cards and installed the driver automatically. The issues came when removed some features on windows IE8 and XPS viewer, windows refused to load so I did a system restore to a point prior to the graphics driver. Turns out I could have just started in safe mode and it would have configured without IE. The point is the graphics card have not functioned correctly since then and I don't know why. They cannot even install now?

Windows Update has just reconfigured the latest Nvidia driver release and are redownloading and install for me. The problem is the file is 150Mb and I have to keep downloading it!

Sounds like yours install is corrupt

Reinstall windows and then the game again, do it without an overclock

Just tried a fresh install of Windows 7! Same problem except after install Explorer.exe failed all the time until I logged in and out and it would be fine for another ten minutes or so.

The BIOS, WIndows Boot and Windows all detect 8Gb of RAM perfectly along with all my other hardware.

The Windows disc might be damaged and corrupting though I am unsure. I have tried different discs though.

Also an intresting problem, nearly all files on my computer are corrupt! If I download a file it is fine, I reboot it is corrupt? Sometimes I reboot the files aren't corrupt anymore. Similar to my first install when BOOTMGR was / wasn't corrupt. To fis this I uninstall two of the sticks and it worked (Previous to me setting the voltage correctly).

Next step:

Installing Windows 7 onto reformatted although different drive from above. The system is running the same setup minus 2 x 2 Gb of RAM.

Okay, once I have taken the RAM out it seems, for the moment, to be working well. The installation has run fine, Windows 7 is not experiencing errors and I will try CoH soon.

If it is the RAM, I don't think either the RAM or the motherboard is faulty, are there any methods to fix my problem so it will work with all 8Gb?

It is running and updating completely stable with 4Gb or RAM. So to insure that no problems occur when I have installed all 8Gb are there any settings I need to change first.

BIOS Settings (MSI P7N Diamond 790i):

Memory Timing (1T) 7-7-7-24 (Recommended)
Memory Voltage (1.65V) (Recommended)

Actually it turns out the memory voltage is 1.7V. Will this have made the impact to my system?

maybe it's one stick or one slot for the ram that is dodgy? have you tried different sticks in different slots to check?

I have not tested this: I am going to try setting the voltage to what it should have been (1.7V as opposed to 1.65V) with all 8Gb of RAM and see whether that fixes my problems. If not then I know it is DIMM slot 2, 4 or RAM DIMM 3,4.

I have run Memtest on my RAM and it passed with no errors reported. It is as soon as I add the extra 4Gb of RAM that Windows, Linux and other software has problems.

I have upped the voltage a little from 1.7v and 1.75 to see if any problems are fixed.

Is there any sort of memory hole remapping option in your bios? Tinkering with that might help if it exists.

I am not sure if there is. All I can find is under the 'Cell Menu' which is: Voltage, Timings and Frequency.

Everything runs perfectly when I only use two of the DIMM slots, doesn't matter which slots, doesn't matter which RAM, though when I have all four the memory fails with anything that doesn't run in BIOS (Such as diagnostic tools). Even fails to load BOOTMGR with all 8Gb.

I am thinking it has to be something to do with the configuration of it? I must not of set it up correctly: Even though it works great with 4Gb. This problem is driving me mad. The only way I can use my computer is to not use all the RAM I bought...

I am happy to take any suggestions anyone might have. This time though I will make a disc image backup of my 122nd installation of Windows 7.
