Help! Computer is Poorly

Hello I'm really hoping someone can help me fathom out what the problem is here as it's driving me insane, I'll try to explain each step so far.

My PC spec:
Windows 10 Pro 64bit
I7 2600k @3800Ghz
16Gb Corsair Vengance @1600Mhz
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H (Cheap replacement)
Palit Geforce GTX Titan X 12GB
1 x 120Gb Crucial M2 SSD
2 x Corsair Force 3 60Gb SSD
1 x 2TB Seagate HDD
XFX 650w XXX Edition PSU

So on Sunday night after getting home I went and turned my on PC and it powered on but with all fans at 100% and didn't provide any bios screen, I pressed reset and the power button but nothing worked so had to resort to turning off the power at the mains, once turned back on the PC came straight back on without the use of the power button but again still nothing.

I thought maybe the motherboard had died because it was a cheap replacement so having a nosey in the case I noticed the power supply making a strange noise like clicking, so turned it off and unplugged a few things and tried again.

so putting it down to a faulty PSU I borrowed an old 750W corsair from a mate to try, everything booted up and I was pretty chuffed, now this power supply was quite noisey so I went close to have a listen and reaching down I touched the back of the case where the GPU exhausts and it was red hot, the chassis of the card was hot too, but I was just sat in windows at the desktop, so i checked temps and it was at 63C idle and the fan was still at idle speeds. Thinking the PSU had taken out the card I took it to ** please do not mention competitors ** and they have come back to me as the card is working fine after testing.

So I thought I'd try the PC using just onboard graphics, where it booted to windows, proceeded to auto install the intel drivers and instantly shut off, it started again on its own and made it to the windows logo and shut back off again. this is as far as it gets now and i cant even boot to pen drive.

I can stay in bios all night fine, voltages and temps are normal, I've reset bios and updated to the latest firmware but the machine just shuts off at the same point trying to load windows, I'm yet to stick the card back in and see if it boots with that in again.

I'm not sure if it's motherboard, memory or this borrowed PSU.
But something caused my GPU to run hot at idle and I'm really stuck as I can't afford to replace everything.

Thanks for your reply Snips86x, I hadn't considered that, but can't get into windows currently so going to struggle at the minute.

I checked the temps in MSi AB but didn't notice the usage, would something like that not have made the fans spin up?

Would you think this old power supply I've borrowed could be faulty too? or just the Gigabyte board doesn't like it.

Thanks Bantu, yeh it should feel hot but not at idle, the whole card was hot.

Sorry the board was a cheap replacement but I should have explained the board has been in a year already.

I've just collected the card back from ** Please do not mention competitors ** , they have confirmed the card ran hot and had a high idle but not enough to warrant them to change it. they will RMA with palit which would take a month or so, Peace of mind to know there is an issue with the card not caused by said psu or motherboard.

now the test is to see if the Pc will boot again with the gpu back in. if not I'll try unplugging the drives.

Yes my drivers are up to date, just recently actually...

I need to check usage and vram tonight, you thinking maybe the latest could have caused something?

hate when a few things happen and nothing makes sense.

Right so back home and testing a few things, firstly the PC boots as normal with the titan back in! thank god for that! . so no booting was down to onboard gpu.

Titan vitals are:

Core temp:62C
Fan speed: 22% / 1050rpm
Core voltage: 1.012v
Power usage: 29%
Core usage: 1%
memoryusage: 0%
Core clock: 1001Mhz (should this not be low?)
Memory clock: 3505Mhz

Just to show other temps, CPU 22C System 26C Room Temp 15C

Solved it

Rollback of the drivers!

idle: 32C
Core speed: 135Mhz
Memory Clock: 405Mhz
Core Voltage 0.856V

Bloody latest Nvidia drivers!!

Because it came at the time my PSU died, got me thinking it over volted my titan. Thanks Nvidia for making me look a fool.

Yes really chuffed! starting to wonder if my XFX PSU is really faulty or if the drivers resulted in a non booting system too.
