I'm pulling my hair out!

Bought my friend an Asus RT-n56u router so he'd get a better wireless signal for his Xbox. He replaced his old surfboard SB4100 modem with a VMDG289 netgear router from virgin.

I've set up the Asus router and every device in his house gets a blinding signal and connects fine. When I try and connect the Xbox it finds the Asus router but simply will not connect. I've tried setting up port forwarding on the router to no avail. Tried entering all the config details manually that were found by typing 'ipconfig/all' into a command prompt and still will not connect. Wireless security is set to WPA2.

The odd thing is the xbox will find the crappy virgin wireless router and connect to it fine, although the signal is poor.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I've got a feeling it must be something simple but I cannot find it. I've tried googling the problem but can't find any solutions.

Edit:-

Having had another good look on google I found this page here I'll give that a go and see if it helps.
