Hi I have a DS3, an E6600 and 2gb G.skill 6400 hz. my problem is that my right will get past the post bios screen and it will reset itself. i've tried re-intalling windows but when it resets itself it gets to the point of "press a button to boot from cd" and the resets itself. i've also tried flashing my bios back from F3 to F1 and its still doing the same thing.

Anyone any idea?

Hi,

I seem to recall the DS3 has issues with that RAM, in that the board supplies 1.8v to the RAM upon boot but the RAM requires more. The latest BIOS F4 or F4C I believe has cured the RAM voltage issue but check first. However flashing the BIOS with unsteady RAM sounds risky to me. Perhaps someone more experienced could reply.

I'm getting a similar setup in the post tomorrow but different RAM (Geil).

[Q] What is the problem with memories and DS3?
[A] Some memories require 2.0V to boot. Standard DS3 stock VDimm is 1.8V. Simply after a CMOS reset the system won’t boot... If you happened to have such mem, replace them. Or buy some shi++y lowcost mem and put it in to boot, change VDimm and replace with your modules to continue o/c.

Hope this helps.

A pinned list of compatible RAM for the DS3 with BIOS version and confirmation of any problems would be ideal here at OCUK forums.

Hey there im a similar predicament. I have a ds3, conroe 6600, g.skill ram, x1800gt all arrived today. Im at the first stage of the build ie no hd or other bits installed and I cannot get it to post. All the fans power on but no picture is appearing on the screen. Ive eliminated the psu and the graphics by using a known working psu and a couple of old pci cards.

I have no idea why it wont post at all.

Two things though that Im not sure about the gfx card has two red lights on it permanently does this indicate fault?
and if you have plugged in 24 pins do you still have to plug in the extra 4 by the cpu ?

This is really bugging me now as ive waited a week for delivery already and now it wont work at all.

Thanks for any help.

You should always put a plug in all the sockets available unless the mobo manual expressly forbids you to do so on pain of pain! :D

So, did it work with the extra 4-pin power lead plugged in?

OK well I try again tonight but when I did plug in all the sockets last night the computer would power up and then instantly turn off. With a different psu with all the stuff plugged in you could hear a switch clicking in the psu when it was turned on instantly turning it off.

Does anyone know if the red lights on the radeon mean error? I think they do.

I will try also with no ram tonight. My mate has asome registered sticks of ddr2, thats the only other ddr2 I have available to me to try. IM gonna test my vid card tonight in his pc aswell. I have also tried the ram in different slots with various combos of 1 or 2 sticks.

JaFFA if you've eliminated your PSU and graphics card,it looks like its either your your RAM, MB or CPU. Have you got known good RAM and spare CPU that are compatible with your MB?

well thats the problem really, I dont have or know any one with a compatible P4/conroe, the only ddr2 I can get my hands on is ECC registered, so I dont know if that would work anyway. As for a mobo, thats def not possible ot get my hands on.

So I dont know what to RMA really?

OK well I tried with it all plugged in and it just turned ona nd off but the red lights didnt pop up on the gfx card.

Then I tried it like that with the ram out of it and it gave a series of beeps then powered off, but styed on a lot longer this time. Still nothing on the screen. Does this point to the ram being the thing making it fail? This si the first time ive heard it beep.

Got same Probs on DQ6. The beeps when no RAM fitted is power error according to the Gigabyte manual. Its not that as I've tried different PSU's. I had G.SKILL 6400 NR which now seems to be a known incompatible memory. Mine will POST with some 'old' DDR2 ram in Either one slot or in two slots, so the mobo is working in both single and dual channel memory modes.
I RMA'd the G.SKILL and have orderd Geil which I am told is compatible. The Geil arrives today and I will let u no how it goes.

ok cheers mate, it looks very much like its the ram then. I bet there will be a lot of people who have this problem as I for one bought it as it was on the week only deal thing with the board.

Hallelujah for DQ6 and Geil

Just got 2 x Geil 2GB (2 x 1gb) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency Dual Channel Kit
Put in 1 stick and the mobo did POST. :)
Pushed my luck to 2 Sticks and same thing :p
Pushed my luck even more to 4 sticks and it came up OK. :D
Since I had no disks installed yet, I connected a floppy drive and booted up with a DOS system disk.
How about MSDOS running on 4GB RAM :o
The DQ6 is still on the delivered Bios F2 with all settings at default including memory voltage.
Now to try for XP

We've got DS3 problems as well with 2gb of geil PC6400 (800mhz),,the PC keeps resetting randomly.

Is anyone of the oppinion this may be related to a bad batch of motherboards?

well ive rma-ed my ram, I was going to get the geil stuff but now you have put me off. Im not sure what to get....

Ill tell you on saturday if I get it up and stable...
